I believe that there's a danger that, if the runner doesn't get enough momentum, the pole might move only a little way, then swing back. I think that the person running behind can grab them in that instance. I presume that they measure to the mark in the sand.
The person behind will yell "los" to signal he needs to let go of the pole if the pole goes back towards the ramp, otherwise there's a risk of him crashing on the ramp, also as a motivator. They measure distance by putting a reflector for a land measuring device in the sand
So, someone was painting the house, fell off the ladder and invented a sport? This would be soooo much more entertaining with people who are grossly out of shape.
In the Netherlands there are small irrigation ditches between every pasture.. Historically it used to be the way for farmers to cross the ditches to their next pasture. It’s a very local sport, even in the small country the Netherlands is, they only practice this sport in the very north..
@@charlottevanlangevelde1114 It's in Friesland where it originated, but also in multiple towns in an area between Utrecht and Rotterdam where they call it polsstokverspringen. And Frisians vs Hollanders is a fun rivalry with them being about equal. Blue and white or the Frisian flag shirts are Frisians and the orange or Dutch flag shirts are Hollanders/Utrechters. And this is in Jaarsveld so in the province Utrecht with the NK one year being held in Friesland and the other year in Holland/Utrecht
