  • In 1966, on a scientific collecting trip to the Arctic by canoe (covered in 4 previous TH-cam videos), I bought 3 Inuit carvings at a Hudson Bay Company store. I discuss in this video how I acquired the carvings, what they are made of, where the carvers lived (Inukjuak - Port Harrison), how to know if they are authentic, and carvers of the pieces: Conlucy Nayoumealook (the Younger but will discuss the importance of his father with the same name to the commercialization of Inuit art), and Joe Adamie Tukai. The carvings are more than rock, more than art, but instead represent the memories of all who had a hand in making them, and those who have handled them including individuals gifted with them who are no longer alive, and those who will handle/see them in the future.
