The cow catcher is used to push cows off the track and out of the way of the train this was used because cows are able to cause train wrecks by standing on the tracks.

The “coal car” is called a tender and it also carries water for the boiler. The “furnace” is called the firebox and it contains a large fire that heats the water in the boiler and turns it into steam. And lastly tenders don’t have doors on the top instead it’s open.

Correction; This is a locomotive & tender, a train is the whole thing from the loco all the way back to the braking car at the rear, with all the carriages and wagons in between... :P
