Thank you Alison, for another interesting and informative video. I've known of Dolly Mixture dolls' houses for years, but not their origin. A fascinating piece of modern history. I find Dolls' Houses Past & Present such a friendly and useful site too! Wishing you and your family a very happy and safe New Year. Looking forward to more of your videos in 2024 - and thank you for sharing so much with us all this year! x
I have one too, mine is a more modern version than yours .I absolutely love it ,it is my favourite house .Thank you so much for sharing this info .I am going to go read the article on them now too
Yes, I purchased it recently from a car boot sale (a bit like a yard sale) just before Christmas. Not that I needed another dollshouse(!), it was just too lovely to leave there. ❤️🏡
How odd that they gave the price in shillings, rather than in pounds! I suppose that was a marketing trick to make it seem as though it was cheaper than it actually was.
When I give talks a lot of the ladies used the pre-decimalisation currency so were able to tell me it's the equivalent of £2.50 in modern terms. Although that obviously doesn't take until account inflation etc as £2.50 was a lot more then than it is now.
There definitely should be more emphasis put on rehabilitating prisoners. Of course, prisoners should be punished for their crimes. Some would argue that losing their freedom and not being able to go where they like or be with their friends and family is already enough of a punishment. If they can be taught a new trade that they can find employment in, after being released, hopefully that would stop them from reoffending.
Yes definitely, it sounded like a great scheme and by the time my house was made it was the young offenders making them, so it was great to give them a trade too.
