Cooper Stairworks Tips & Techniques - How To Connect Handrail To A Newel Post Using The Slip Fix UT Rail Bolt
In this video we'll demonstrate how to connect handrail to a newel post in a few simple steps using the ZIPBOLT Slip Fix UT Rail Bolt (13.810). A new product for the stair industry, the main feature of this product will be its ability for fixing a hand rail between 2 fixed posts. The Slipfix is preinstalled into both ends of the rail and retracts flush with the end grain, it is then lowered between the posts and the shafts exit and engage the keyhole discs in the posts. Once the connection is made tightening takes place using the Zipbolt gear housing as the drive system and the job is done.

Hi, thanks for this video. I’m using an 1 5/8” thick handrail. Will this work for attaching to the newel? Thank you
Here is a link to the spec sheet cooperstairworks.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/13.810_Combined_Spec_Sheet.pdf
The depth for the 1” hole is 1-3/8”, that would likely be too small. Please call us at 508-235-4397 with any questions. Thank you.
If you use this to install a top rail between two posts once you place the railing in place and the zipbolts slip into the holes is there a way to retract the zipbolts if you wanted to remove the railing when installing a straight railing between two posts
It retracts but it should not be used as a means to install and remove the rail on a regular basis. It should always be used in conjunction with glue once the final rail is in place. Please give us a call at 508-235-4397 with any questions.
