- Wai-O-Tapu (Māori for "sacred waters") is an active geothermal area at the southern end of the Okataina Volcanic Centre, just north of the Reporoa caldera, in New Zealand's Taupo Volcanic Zone. Located 27 kilometres south of Rotorua. Due to dramatic geothermal conditions beneath the earth, the area has many hot springs noted for their colourful appearance, in addition to the Lady Knox Geyser, Champagne Pool, Artist's Palette, Primrose Terrace and boiling mud pools. These can mostly be viewed through access by foot.
The 18 km2 geothermal area in the Waikato region on the North Island of New Zealand is spectacular. It contains collapsed craters, fumaroles, hot springs, mineral-colored hot and cold ponds and pools, and mud ponds from which gases of volcanic origin rise and burst on the surface as a mud bubble. The geothermal area is one of the largest in New Zealand and sculptured out of volcanic activity in thousands of years .

My word Shiso I found this a delight. From the dark but not gloomy bass sounds of the tectonic forces of Nature right through the range up to the high notes of the wispy nature of the steam and synchronised so well, sounded lovely and so fit the subject with a perfect intermission for the natural sounds and then the quiet of the solid rock it leaves behind to the fountain crescendo at the end and finishing off with the overview of the pastoral scene was a joy to watch.
