I loved Van Ronk, too, and was definitely influenced by his playing in my early days. I had a radio show in the mid 80s on the local college station and I would occasionally do a live interview with an artist. Dave was coming to town and I had to conduct an interview by phone. I'd never done that before and our gear was primitive, of course, with a low budget station so I was a little nervous about running the gear, asking good questions, keeping the conversation going smoothly, etc. Luckily for me, Dave was the easiest possible interview! Ask one question and then shut up for 5 minutes! Great storyteller.
Thanks for shining a light on Dave Van Ronk. He's not as well known as he should be, which is a shame. My fave song of his is his cover of Twelve Gates to the City. His voice is incredible on that track!
Your 3 part guide to fingerstyle guitar was the first guitar book I ever brought! And now I find out you were associated with Dave Van Ronk in some way... That is so cool!!!
When I met DaveVanRonk..at a show as a fingerstyle blues and ragtime piano player I told him I got alot of influence from fingerstyle guitar players like him Jihn Hurt Blind Blake for some of my stylings. Two of my favorites to play are Blood Red Moon and Sunday street.. He said to me that he got a lot of stuff from New Orleans Piano Players. That was a cool exchange.
Saw Van Ronk many many times and we miss him dearly. I like your Honk! Tx. T-shirt too- We're Honkers up here in Boston/Cambridge. Keep the faith and keep up the good work.
I'm certainly a Van Ronk afficianado. Saw him a couple of times live in the 80's in Austin. I learned "Come Back Baby" and "Gamblers Blues" from his versions.
He was such an important influence for me. In the years before Internet it was very hard to get Dave's stuff in Germany. So I've tried to lernand by ear. But then, for a bag full of money, someone sent me Dave's Songbook and his Stefan Grossman VHS Tape. 👍 BTW : I broke with Dylan after I've read Dave's story.
I am a absolute beginner to finger style blues, but I have played bass for many years and started with guitar about 4 years ago, does your course start at a beginner friendly level. Thank you

I knew him and learned a lot from him during the lat '50's and early '60's. I never could get the harmonic consistently, though.

Happy Birthday, David! Thanks for all you do. I play Van Ronk's version of Saturday Night Shuffle all the time.
So cool you got to hang with him. We’re all following his footsteps. Nice playing as well

The Mayor of MacDougal Street.
Wait, what's the story behind Dylan forgetting something about House of the Rising Sun?
Short version?! Dylan stole it from Dave 🙄
@@12barand released it before Dave had a chance to release it himself
Van Ronk got butthurt.
@@MattBlickDotCom But then The Animals had a huge hit with it, and so much for Dylan's version.
