- Erik and I went to go birding on of the trails along saddle road in the big island. We've been "somewhat" addictive in trying to document as much Hawaiian native forest birds we can since we know their time left on the islands are not too long from now.
Hawaii is the endangered species capital of the world. One of the species that have been decimating our our Hawaiian native birds, which most are our honeycreepers. Unfortunately climate change and the spread of avian malaria from the southern house mosquitos are big factors in the decline of our birds.

Birding is great, meet a lot of friends along the trails. Lots of walking and waiting.
Agreed!
Love this video 🤙🏼 Mahalo
Mahalo nui! Hope you get to check it out one day!
Thank you! When I think of Pu'u O'o, I think of the vent in Volcano National Park from which so much lava erupted from the '80s to the early 2010's. But it looked like you were in the saddle area between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
Ah yes I was at the one along saddle road. I gotta check the one in volcano np one day
