- The Calamity mod is famous for its contents and soundtracks.
Dokuro created the motifs by hands to complement the marvelous soundtracks and hinting the lore behind the bosses.
Today we are going to dive deep into the motifs and what music they come from.

I had an idea of renewing all the music video into latest version (new sprites, new logo etc.) but I feel like it's not appropriate to do this kind of stuff (according to Dokuro), even if otherwise it's not worth the effort to do so.
Also there is an error at 05:23 when the music box sound effect comes up earlier but I'm not gonna spend 3 more hours waiting to export this video. - เกม
I like how a significant chunk of these are all in Raw Unfiltered Calamity, it's a nice touch that DM included.
Calamitas was originally the final boss, so it made sense for the song to be a combination of all the bosses beforehand.
@@Manahina1at no point was calamitas the final boss, even when calamitas was originally added, dog was the final boss of the mod, and scal uses a different song.
In my eyes, the battle with Calamitas Clone is the true entrance into Hardmode. It's the first really difficult battle, minus the Wall of Flesh, of course, and the song uses motifs from everything up until that point.
yeah, it really fits the theme of a civilization gathering inspiration from all parts of the world and different creatures to create the calamitas clone
@@pocketplayer33 master mode infernum WoF wrecked me, it was miserable but I liked it
The Yharim motif is also found in plague bringer goliath's theme briefly during the slow flute part
Yeah lmao
the poor bee
at 1:00 if anyone is wondering

I still can't believe people made Dokuro quit calamity
He was a staple of this mod
His music was some people's reason to play calamity or terraria itself
I wish all the best to Dokuro and whatever he's doing now
Yes your right .. the reason I want to play calamity because of the the music/sound tracks
This just proves how much a staple Dokuro truly was in this community, and how he forever will be.
Also Calamity fanbase: Let's harass him for absolutely no reason other than we're impatient
@@ascended8174 a lot of them were probably idiots who only wanted something to get mad about
it was like a minor part of the fanbase tho, most calamity fans I know are pretty cool people
@@eskeladder7751 Unfortunately, even a vocal minority is terrible. There's a reason that he still has comments disabled on all of his calamity songs. It sucks that people have to be that way
I've yet to see Calamity fans that aren't complete dbags and elitists
I really like how much Calamity enhanced pre-hardmode. Each of these boss motifs could be reserved for the final boss but so much effort was put into making the whole OST come together as an experience, not just giving the final few bosses the limelight.
I'm a sucker for non-verbal musical storytelling
I always appreciated how the labs had a peaceful, but lonely theme.
The peace brought by the absence of the creator.
that's when you realize that Raw, Unfiltered Calamity is just a bunch of Leitmotifs and i love it !
its almost like raw meat, its one thing with alot of random bacteria on it
@@Rafelandroid2 i mean i like a lot this theme, so i won't say it's like raw meat xD but i get what you mean
Bruh this is ridiculous, the amount of effort and detail here is insane.
Crediting all the songs.
Displaying some of the notes.
It's all I ever wanted.
Says a lot how long this video is, I can only imagine how long it'd take me to make a video like this 😅
Amazing video, im probs gunna watch this video autisticly for the next year now.😂
Genuine question btw.
Is Hive Mind and The Perforator's lietmotifs not in Slime God together by the end?
Because Slime God is a Corruption and Crimson Evil mix I thought those flutes at the end were being thematic.
I hope I didn't gaslight myself or something 🤣
@@royalhybrid4524 Yes, I didn't notice that until I saw an earlier comment
Fun fact: "The nightmare fabricator" motif is actually used a bunch in the Infernum ost
Yeah it’s everywhere in there, Pinpin has a particular fondness for the motif I think
Yeah it's just draedon's motif
It's a sad thjng what happened to DM. It was undeserved all the way, he did so much for nothing in return.
can I have a full context on what happened to DM
@@TheAlmightyGream i also got just tidbits.
So he was seemingly a little unstable, alright.
But also was harrassed and sent death threats because people didn't like his songs style and wanted more and faster.
Key sentences: didn't like his musical style& wanted more within less timeframe.
Calamity fans are the most toxic pieces of shit.
Just had an argument with one in reddit where someone possibly following what i did, tried to ask the community to toxicity or no toxicity, leave DM alone.
This guy in the comments was obnoxious calling us suck dickers cuz DM spits in our mouth.
By that he means how DM despises any and all mention towards calamity and will heartly tell you to fuck off if you bring it up.
I don't blame DM at all. He was sending out masterpieces faster than triple AAA companies work on their games. For free. One piece each 5 months or so, i think.
@@xm214-aminigun9 so that's why all of his calamity videos have their comments turned off
@@TheAlmightyGream this just in, the same guy who called me a suck dicker had sent a concern for my mental being. Don't know what to think of it.
@@xm214-aminigun9 don't mind him, he's probably either just be looking at a mirror or his black sweaty phone screen which also resembles a mirror
DM dokuro is a great voice actor and musician and even does many more stuff man... I even start playing Terraria because of his ost
Playing a game because of an artist that made music for a mod for a game, now that is a testament to how good he is!
He actually uses synth voices in a lot of his pieces, like roar of the jungle dragon, and if you hear his new album, keep walking and bacteriophage
I'm sorry but he is a voice actor???
Played Terraria because of yharon's theme, this is the best decision I've ever made in my entire life
@@Aicielle he did voice act in
uksrt X as the main villian, its a really difficult rhythm game with flashy lights and stuff.
What I love about the OST is that even without the context of the games it's possible to sort of understand the purpose behind the themes and make connections using the different motifs.
Like how the Brimstone Elemental theme sounds lonely, and mirrors SCals theme, which gives a feeling that SCal had some hand in delivering some tragic fate to her (maybe that's just the general brimstone theme, but that's the kind of theory that could pop up without lore). Or like how since the Calamitas clone combines a bunch of motifs it feels like it was a being created from all these different parts.
I do wish to include some motif uses that may have been forgotten in here.
- Hive Mind and Perforator's motifs in Slime Gods' theme
- Slime Gods' motifs in Astrageldeon's theme.
Great video regardless.^-^
1. Can you kind tell where the motifs appear in the Slime God theme?
2. It's already in the video
Thanks for your support
@@ChlorophyteShotbow The Perf and Hive Mind motifs for Slime Gods appear in 1:37 and 1:47, respectively.
@@QDNinga I never noticed that one, that's really cool!
@@QDNinga I’m hearing hive mind at both of those timestamps, having trouble hearing the perf motif
EDIT: after listening a couple of times, I can hear both - the woodwind instrument plays hive while the trumpet plays perfs
@@ChlorophyteShotbow hive mind theme in slime god theme is right before the main melody, during the "quieter" part of the song
I’ve also seen the “intimidating” motif used unofficially as a motif for Xeroc
Note for new viewers: Based on the colour of the text in the top left of the screen indicates if that is a definite/confirmed name (like the 'Hit List') or otherwise (guesstimates like sulphuric)
(Personal opinion: Draedon tends to be the better word compared to 'nightmare fabricator' as it gets the point across as to who its referring to and can be used interchangeably)
This just goes to show that you could make 60 different calamity songs out of the motifs alone and each one could still be uniquely good
Great and informative video! I've listened to the Calamity OST for years at this point, yet still hadn't detected some of those motifs! Keep it up!
Incredible how DM Dokuro adheres to the lore in the form of motifs. Been waiting for this video for a long time 🎉
so Dokuro just a genius
This is well done!
For the Calamitas section, there's actually 2 motifs: the one at 6:47 is present in both beginnings of Raw, Unstable Calamity and Stained Brutal Calamity, and also appears at the end of Epiphany. That would be the "Calamitas" motif.
The other one at 6:19 as well as in SBC and the title track could be considered the Calamity motif itself! It's the closest we have to a main theme.
They're the same melody, but just different rhythm
Yharim's motif is also present at the end of RotJD during the guitar solo with the bells that are a longer version of the subtle bells in the middle of the song, except that after the bells, the horns continue the motif if you pay attention. I really love that touch!
I felt like I never saw anybody talking about the super boss “intimidation” motif so I’m glad you pointed it out here
I love how the intimidating motif gets more and more... well.... intimidating across the three boss rush themes. Really really nice detail!
I'd personally like to believe that the little snippets of random motifs also present in Raw Unfiltered Calamity are actually pieces of the Player's theme, and Raw Unfiltered Calamity brings them all together.
Edit: Except for the ones with another reason to be there. Namely: Brimstone Flames, Brimmy, and Cal, Yharim's Insignia.
bro is criminally underrated
Holy shit, this is exactly the video I needed! I was thinking about composing a calamity mod fan track, and this is the perfect way to gauge what motifs I’m using without over-saturating it with too many of them! Thank you so much!
10:58 I just now noticed that the Yharim motif shows up briefly in Fly of Beelzebub as well
3:03 I thought this was just a sound to give it a more epic feel
THE NOTATION IN THE HIVE MIND MOTIF BLEW ME AWAY, THAT IS AWESOME. I HAD NO IDEA THE HIVE MIND MOTIF WAS IN THE CALAMITAS THEME.
You're actually awesome bro what- that's a subscribe from me.
AND THE CRYOGEN THEME BEING IN IT. OMGG YOU'RE MAKING ME REALIZE SO MANY THINGS
I had no idea how many Motifs Calamity had and now I'm obsessed with them. I absolutely love it when a soundtrack has like a ton of different Motifs all attached to specific themes and characters.
I love how the SCAL bossfight left such a mark on me that even the music still sends shivers down my spine
My guy you missed 1, brimstone crags motif is heard all though out Left alone.
bro every year dokuro becomes more of a legend
Desert scourge (verse) is also in outcast of the sulphurous seas at 1:21
My God I have waited so long to see this exact video I can not thank you enough.
The best part is that the motifs make you feel like your journey has led up to certain key points. Like Cal Clone.
Yharim's Insignia also makes appearance in the theme of Exo Mechs
Correction: The Infernum one by PinpinNeon
It's really cool to see how Dokuro incorporated the themes of so many different things into Raw Unfiltered Calamity. It really sells the fake Final boss vibe Calamitas gives me-
remember dont bother dokuro he's doing his own wonderful things rn.
Yharim’s insignia actually goes so hard in raw unfiltered calamity
Now that CD is making draedon theme and seeing this video, its obvious that the motif is all over the 2nd teaser and thats what makes the song a banger
Apparently Intimidating is actually in the very intro of Universal Collapse as well, its in the bass and for a short time
THANK YOU for making this. After a video of someone pointing out hte motifs in calam clone I knew there had to be others and I didn't find any videos until yours.
Headcanon: "The Hit List" is the Player's leitmotif
i have been waiting for this for so long, thank you
Amazing video. I never noticed the vast majority of these. Very well made
The realization that all post-ML bosses share a leitmotif was something I did NOT expect
THIS IS SO WELL DONE
thank you for your service this is so good
amazing work, thank you, this is a great piece for the community
The desert scourge motif is also the melody in "the tale of a cruel world" and is in "stained brutal calamity" right before the 3rd part drops
Do you mean the "Brimstone Flames" motif? Their melody are different
@ChlorophyteShotbow nah, at the start of epiphany in the build-up before the song drops. It's very subtle
@@All_Knowing_Raphael If you compare 5:51 with a midi of the Guardian of the Former Seas its different
btw tToaCW's melody is original
@@All_Knowing_RaphaelThe start of Epiphany sounds more like Scourge Of The Universe imo
thanks for the effort. It turned out great 👌
very nice! i'll add another one to the list:
the start of the crabulon's verse (the part after the castañas), which also appears in the leviathan's theme, on the "slow section" of the chorus
also one could argue that the jungle dnb percussion sections in both the anahita boss theme and the leviathan's make reference to cryogen's, since anahita uses ice shards too
I don't think leviathan theme uses crabulon motif, along with the fact that crabulon has no relation with anahita & leviathan lore-wise, so the melodies might be a coincidence
holy shit this is my new favorite video, great job dude
Love DM DOKURO's work
I like how Yharon motif is just
THIS IS MY MESSAGE TO MY MASTER
THIS IS A FIGHT YOU CANNOT WIN
Wow... thank you so much!
This is amazing! I dont know what else to say 😅great work!
this video is very well made!
thank you for this video
wow I cant believe I never notice any of the motifs in calamitas clone. nice video
I was waiting for someone to do this omg
Dokuro is a genius
nice job
yharims insignia is so sick bruh
the step below hell motif in stained brutal calamity is one of my favourite moment from the entire ost
the cryogen motif is also in the track that plays during a blizzard if you have calamity extra music installed
Thats quality content right here
I think it’s really cool that a little pierce of the astrogeldon slime’s theme was carried over to its successor’s theme as a little homage
With the release of the tier 4 boss rush theme. I wanna say. The beginning of it uses the intimidating motif heavily.
I believe that the "Intimidating" motif is also featured in Return to Slime at around 1:25 in the chords in the background. I can't tell for sure, but it certainly sounds similar.
This video is amazing
Wow, the transposed melody is even displayed on screen.
This may or not be a coincidence, but I think that I may have found the origin of the "intimidating" motif. In Dokuro's arranged remix of Moonsong from Cave Story, you can hear the motif as a backing to the melody at 0:23. It can also be found at 0:08 in the original Cave Story ost.
Esperé pacientemente que alguien publicará un video sobre esto
This is why raw unfiltered calamity and stained brutal are the best themes
I know gannondorf's theme in twilight princess has many motifs(i wish someone would go out there and make a series deconstructing zelda music but hey close enough). but god calamitas has so many.
Other games not included, Im too oblivious lol
My personal faves are (They are all insane tho) Crabulon, Abyss, BS Crags, Calamitas, Devourer, Yharim (I always heard it in themes but didnt realise it was Yharim's motif), Dragons Aerie (I loved this part sooo much in SCal's theme, now i know it), NF II, The Hit List
I'm guessing you didn't want to do leitmotifs, because that'd get you a lot more, like the bells that are ever present in DM DOKURO's songs
Catastrophes before Calamity (interlude #3) hits so hard 😩 listen to it if you haven’t!
the fact he used the old terraria calamaty mod boss sprites for the bg is amazing
I know CD music’s music isnt out yet but second draedon trailer slaps hard in terms of leitmotif
im so excited to eventually see the dragon Aerie and finally beat yharim one day
I just like the bells
I've always thought of The Hit List motif as possible yharim theme as it comes after scal and exo mech theme in catastrophic fabrications
I knew that the final motif in track Roar of the Jungle Dragon is theme of Yharim.
The amount of leitmotifs in raw unfiltered calamity is definitely on purpose to make you think calamitas is the final boss
i want to add, the yharim motif is also basically spammed in the background of the guitar solo in roar of the jungle dragon basically for a quarter of the whole track xd
See the calamity & addons video thumbnail? The background is the Roar of the Jungle Dragon in lmms. You know what I'm going to do.
btw the reason all this motif stuff began is because you introduced the moosescore thing
@@ChlorophyteShotbow ah i see xd, glad to have introduced you to musescore, very useful app for notating sheet music indeed
also ... i don't know what are you going to do wth the rotjd in the daw xd, are you making some sort of medley of the motifs or some fanmade music?
@@unnamed_boi I make every melody a yharim motif
a part of final phase leviathan & anahita plays in catastrophes before the calamity (interlude #3). i dunno if you can count that as a motif tho.
raw unfiltered clam
How ironic that so many of these unique bosses have themes mixed in calamitas clone’s when calamitas clone has extremely similar AI to retinazor
The Calamitas motif is in the latter half of Forbidden Lullaby, too. You missed that one.
It would be cool to hear in the official or official tracks of Yharim his two motives, the motive of Yharon, calamitas clone, supreme calamitas and dreadon.
Dokuro is a fucking genius
this is weird, and i doubt anyone will get this comparison, but raw unfiltered calamity is very similar to two songs from a mobile rhythm game called Cytus II, and those two songs are Chaos and V, they both contain many many motifs of other songs in the game, specifically songs belonging to Ivy, one of the characters in the game (each character has different songs), and while i never played it, im pretty sure theyre all motifs of songs from Cytus I...anyways, i just thought id share this little comparison of mine, i find them both to be very interesting, and maybe someone knows what im referring to!
It would be cool if someone makes a fan track of Xeroc that starts with an intimidating motif.
You should link this into the Infernum soundtrack now that it's finished.
Also, I never would have made some of these connections.
I miss cold front.
Doruko uses motifs almost as often as Toby Fox
Bro this is such a well made video how you got no subs
Correct me if I'm wrong but the devourer themes seem to have some connection to the draedon motif (nightmare fabricator) and scourge motif from the early 2 scourges. Do me a favour and listen to the devourer motif and then the draedon motif.
I've thought about draedon's motif in the devourer themes, but it's just the first three notes that are similar. It's either coincidence or dokuro wanted to make a nice touch to interlude 3.
Can you provide more information about the scourges motif? I don't know where it starts in the devourer motif
@@ChlorophyteShotbow I do think it makes sense that devourer and draedon would be connected as draedon made the armour. Anyways I’ll find where it may or may not link with the scourges
