    There's some kind of Magic into these old Sensors, it's Film-like. The 30D is the "Mini-Me" Version of the EOS 5D, which came half a Year earlier. (Fall 2005). It's only 8 MP, but per-Pixel Sharpness is being great. The 30D is my Grab&Go DSLR, when going to unsecure Locations, further when shooting into the Mist, near Waterscapes (the 30D is not being weathersealed, 2006 Tech for info) or into Lost Places. The latest 18-55/4-5.6 STM is extraordinary, and also the 10-18 STM, 55-250 STM are very good EF-S Lenses. The 24mm F2.8 STM is the best overall Prime for the EF-S based Canon DSLR Series (xxD, xxxD, xxxxD) means APS-C Bodies. It's DoF is like F4 on a Fullframe Body, but the 24/2.8 STM should be always on, not the 50/1.8 STM, because this is due to x1.62..1.63 Canon APS-C Cropfactor like a Portrait Lens into real Life. The 18-55 STM comes into handy, when a bit Zoom Flexibility is being needed, with good Image Quality.

      Thanks for the information. The 30D definitely did surprise me after I got the focus system decent enough to function.

    These walkabouts with your camera and lens of choice are interesting Scott.
    Great to see you outdoors working and trying various combinations out for stills.
    I use my Nikon DSLRs with vintage glass from time to time just for a change of method.

      Thanks, that's what I'm going for with these videos. I'm hoping they can help people find combinations of tools that might interest them or benefit from little tips I notice in use... or maybe just get people motivated to get out there and do photography. Sometimes I can't think of anything to say which makes the video difficult to make interesting, haha. I think this is my favorite style of video to make, but the views compared to straight gear videos tends to be low. I probably should experiment with more exciting subjects/locations.

    The EF-S 24mm is a fantastic lens for me, I have it on the 7D MkII and I also have the EOS M with the EF-M 22mm which is another little gem! I love them both and although I have other lenses and zooms that I can mount, I keep these two on most of the time.

    8:24 Use C.Fn 04 option 1 to separate auto focus from auto exposure, than you can focus with button [ * ] and AE normally with shutter button half way.

      I see, that could be helpful. In the video I was more so referring to the large area of the frame that current mirrorless cameras can be focused (88% x 100% of the frame in the case of the Canon EOS M50).

    Hi.What do you think, is the picture quality with 24mm is the same as canon ef 24-105 f4l IS?
    I have this 24mm lens and thinking about one more. I consider 50mm 1.4 usm or 24-105. Body is canon 70d.
    Which one can you recommend fo landscape and traveling? The most important thing is quality and sharpness. Thank you

    • @ScottJWaldron
      @ScottJWaldron  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've never used that zoom lens and don't do detailed resolution tests. If you care about those technical aspects then check out websites like "optical limits". They do have a test on a version of the 24-105mm: opticallimits.com/canon/canon-rf-24-105mm-f-4-usm-l-is-review/
      As well as a 24mm f/2.8 STM photozone.de/canon-eos/889-canon_24_28stm

    Hey Scott, thanks for another great video. I especially enjoy your forest photography videos! You always seem to find interesting variety and beauty in what would initially appear to be a simple subject!
    I am debating between the 24mm Ef-s and 22mm ef-m. My wife has an old 1100d and I have an M50 w/adapter. Maybe the answer is both? Do you think the 22 enough of a jump in quality to spend money on two similar lenses?

    • @ScottJWaldron
      @ScottJWaldron  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I recorded footage and took photos today with the two lenses side by side. Haven't looked at the resulting photos yet. Eventually I''ll be making a video about it. So far the 24mm seems nice enough. From the photos I have looked at so far I don't think there is any concern with image quality on the 24mm... I paid $65 to a local person for it, but even at full retail price it's around half what the 22mm costs. If price is a big deal and you already have the adapter I don't see why not to get the 24mm (at least at this point in my testing). I do like the 22mm for its size and larger aperture. I use the 22mm for most of my sit-down talking to the camera videos, but I might try the 24mm to see how that works.

    Will the Canon EF-S 24mm f2.8 STM fit onto a full Frame body like the 5D? I know it's designed for APS-C bodies, but I've read competing views as to whether it will actually fit onto a full frame body, albeit with some vignetting.

    • @ScottJWaldron
      @ScottJWaldron  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've never heard of this being possible, but maybe for some specific 3rd party lenses that don't follow Canon's mount standard exactly. I don't think Canon branded EF-S would even fit, though I've never tried because I haven't owned a Canon FF DSLR. The main concern would be the mirror hitting the back of the lens.

    • @ScottJWaldron

      Also, anything you've heard could be related to mirrorless RF mount full-frame cameras, They wouldn't have physical issues because there is no mirror and an adapter is used.

      Probably the Canon EF-M 11-22mm Lens. I occasionally use the 15-45mm kit lens for stuff like this, but it doesn't focus as close and can't get as wide.

    Does the 30d have the "reset lens" option anywhere in the menu? I can't remember if the 80D has it but it should put that lens away when you turn it off.

    • @ScottJWaldron
      @ScottJWaldron  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't see it in there. The menu system consists of one main screen split into three colored sections. There is a separate screen for 9 custom modes in its own screen. In a way, the simplicity is nice.

    Hi! I actually like your videos. After saw this video i am interested in canon 30d. I am new in dslr. Currently i have canon 550d and i am learning photography. Is this a good camera over 30d? And also i am planning to buy 24mm f2.8 stm lens. I only have canon 50mm f1.8. Is it worth to buying 24mm f2.8? And what about camera body should i stick with canon 550d or change another body like 30d or 40d? Could you please suggest me?

    • @ScottJWaldron
      @ScottJWaldron  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 24mm lens is nice and will give you a different look (field of view) than the 50mm. The 550D is a lot newer than the 30D. You would need to get the 70D or newer to have an upgrade. Technically the 60D is the same era as the 550D, but the upgrades would not be in aspects like low noise performance and image quality (I assume).

      I don't understand what you are saying. I do have footage recorded where I use the 24mm lens with an M50. Haven't started editing it.
