I saw Quiet Riot open for Iron Maiden in Charlotte, N.C. October of 83. Their show was high energy and they rocked the house. They had great sound too. During Maidens set, between songs, Bruce Dickenson said something to the effect of "Quiet Riot knows how to rock. We've got to really rock to top that."

I met Kevin and the whole original band once. I walked with them from the concert venue back to their Bus.
Everyone was really cool, as was Kevin. With out Kevin, QR is just a tribute band.
Ps. Mt aunt in Hollywood personally knew them all, as it was, the house next door had musician's over all the time for party's and my aunt was always intrigued to and got to know everyone well. She laughed about the name Quiet Riot because, as she said, they were most respectful guys and always checking with her to ake sure they weren't being too loud.
      RIP Kevin.

Rock and roll is meant to be blue collar, relatable, and fun with a hint of emotion, yet big, bombastic and a little sleazy. It's meant to be music for the masses, and the glam metal guys GOT that. AC/DC did as well. So did David Lee Roth. Those guys represent the true spirit of rock and roll.

Keel and some other act were supposed to open, but when concertgoers got there, they had crossed those names out. Also, they were supposed to play in the arena, but I guess ticket sales were so bad they played a smaller theatre in the same building. I was on the floor right near the stage and was taken aback by who was opening. Then at the end of Poison's set, Bret Michaels yells, ok, party at the tour bus and it seemed like half the audience left lol.

It's funny how people think they know someone by talking to them for five minutes, or by being snubbed by them. I would imagine touring as a rock act is very stressful at times, and band members could be cool one night and jerks the next, depending on how things were going for them at the time. I'm pretty sure they are all pretty good people most of the time, just like the rest of us.

I've read the Kelly Garni book. This is a good book on Randy Rhoads life before he made it big with Ozzy. The book is very telling about Dubrow. QR might possibly made it bigger earlier if they had a different front man. Dubrow always hating Van Halen as they were both hitting it on the strip at the same time. They were competing for gigs and record company attention. He always was trashing them. but quite frankly VH was a better band. Better songs, better bass player , drummer and front man. honestly the two QR albums with Randy on them, (other than his playing) just wasn't that good. They hit it big with Bang your head album, and then then nothing really good since... They got lucky with one. Like the blind dog eventually finding the bone...

Furthermore, the purist elitist mindset fostered mainly by the grunge and metal communities is the very thing rock and roll was originally intended to fight against, and that mindset killed rock and roll as a viable mainstream commodity by running off the casual listeners. It lost relevance as a result. And if you TRULY LOVE rock and roll, you should want it to be relevant and have as many listeners as possible.

As a kid I bought Metal Health with my own cash, the same for Conditional Critical ( I'll admit it wasnt as good as Mwtal Health , but the Slade cover was great and " Winners" is still a song a listen to it will share with loved ones. MAYBE, POISON had technically proficient musicians and a vocally gifted front man, but QR always seemed like scrappers who paid a shit ton of dues. @@zls9890 It’s very hard to keep-up with the comings and goings of every old mediocre butt-rocker, man.
Actually, I live in Hollywood. What shit-smelling hamlet is it that you’re checking-in from, Dr Rock?

In my 50 years off going to live rock shows Poison was by far one of the worst live bands I have seen. If it wasn't for the women lifting their shirts to show the band I would have walked out after the second song.

Was too young, but Have heard alot of mixed things about QR live back in the 80s.;Though it’s easy to see why they had explosive potential on a nightly basis.
I saw them w.o Carlos sometime around 2004 ..they sounded fine.. but they seemed conflicted.. they really lacked the type of attitude & charisma associated w the brand.
Poison is always great live outside of a few of their first shows opening for Ratt in 86-87

Ozzy has a lot more cred than Kevin but let's be honest.. Kevin was definitely the better metal singer. Still not right to poke fun at a metal god like osbourne but dubrow had one of the best rock voices.

At the end of the day quiet right we’re not very good songwriters and none of those albums can compete with Van Halen, motley Crue, Aerosmith etc. They didn’t even want to cover come on feel the noise.

What I'm saying is, being "anti-mainstream" is not only NOT COOL, it has hurt rock far more than helped it.
