This was so beautiful both Kara and Lena have a bond that no other person in their lives has. Their love for each other is special because it goes beyond friendship with them.
So even though it's not Canon relationship the show did give us something that is more than just friends. Let's think on what season 6 showed us. Throughout 5 seasons there has been 1 person that went to any lengths for Kara, that put her entire life in hold to be Kara's other half and protector, that person had been Alex Danvers. For 5 seasons she was the only one who could get through to Kara when she was messing up, save her, be her partner at game night, share after work meals with, and the only person Kara felt safe opening up to. Then season 6 came. Lena made a choice at the end of season 5, she was all in, she saw how her actions hurt Kara in ways she never intended, she saw how she could have prevented so much by just working with Supergirl instead of always challenging her. Lena became Kara's other half. Alex herself observed Lena being in perfect sync with Kara in ways only she herself had ever been. Alex felt comfortable in finally moving on with her life because Kara found someone who cared as much for Kara as she did. Lena even was able to talk to Kara on a level even Alex could not because Kara cared for Lena in a way she would not be able to care for Alex. Lena's opinion mattered to Kara more than Alex's. Now the show says it wasn't romantic love, okay but Kara and Lena ended with a bond that trumped even her sisters bond, so call it what you want, but it was way more than friends.
