Thank you, Kellie and John for your transparency. I know this has helped so many! John, you are so right about the church shoots their wounded. It breaks my heart to see that.

This was so awesome!!!! I have been with the Copelands since 1983 and they have been my family. I have loved you from afar. Everything you are talking about here is the experience of my life. I only could keep doing Faith in God but there was no help for the 'broken me' that lost a marriage, was dysfunctional in relationship, etc. I just kept tithing, praying in the spirit etc. Well, all these years later, I have been helped and I can identify with John's ministry and Kelli's too! You are both so awesome for being honest and open with the brokenness in your own lives! It is such a blessing to the non-perfect 'faith' people out there like me. People who love God and and want to follow but need help from real people. I am one of them too! Praise the Lord!!! 🙏❤‍🩹

This was awesome, so good to talk about the hard stuff that no one talks about among Christians, thanks for posting this. I'm a South African partner, love and blessings.

We had to stop commutation with our son because of his verbal abuse . To confront my behaviour is one thing but to attack me personal as his mom has been so painful . His brother and sister as well. we know there is pain and trauma. We did enable him and we know as parents we made our mistakes . Please pray for our son David . We miss him so much but the drinking makes him a different person. He has two girls and a wife . We love him very much

So true!! We have a recovery group at our church!! We see many people suffering with some kind of addiction. It used to be…. “You don’t need a counselors” just do it by faith!! BUT WE NEED OTHERS who CAN HELP US!! We need each other!!

Great discussion. I so honor how you have both had to overcome growing up in the limelight. And YES! Ministers need a safe place to go. But they also need to step away from leadership to do that. And not be secretive. If they were more open, their congregations would be also. Instead most churches do not allow for real issues to be discussed.

This was a powerful episode. It was insightful and strengthening, letting the listener know that it is ok to back off from enabling loved ones. It’s ok if they fall down. It’s ok to take your hands off of them, and trust God to keep them alive until they decide to get help.

What a refreshing conversation! My experience back when was that the church tried to help but didn’t have the equipment. I ended up facing my past with the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. It’s been decades, but then I was prompted to write a book about some of my experiences and where it led me. The book is called Avalanche Me. I just wanted the Holy Spirit to fall on me and cover me. Instead He recreated me. I wrote it as a missionary tool/purpose.

I have to give John ''total credit'' for 'coming clean' / sharing about his drinking issues - there's NO Shame, in that Game !! I also fully agree that 'Our Almighty Father' can take a Mess [bad situation etc] & Make it into a Fresh Start ''&'' A Blessing for the person themselves & Ultimately ... 'others' too ! : ) / Exactly what's happened here w/ John !
Yes, the ''church'' NEEDS so Much Help too ! Thank-you both for shedding 'light' on this so Believers can 'truly' be '''Set-Free''' !!! : ) ... This was a very 'real' & oh so '''refreshing''' chat !
In closing, Yes = No more 'codependence' just working on / towards ''Healthy - Interdependence'' : ) Again, tfs !

It's sad but true. Church's should be safe. I'm sure our Father wants the church to minister to his children. Thank you for talking about this.

I believe there needs to be more deliverance ministry and deep inner healing ministry like SOZO. Many believe in physical healing but Jesus did more deliverance. Or at least equal. Addiction is often attached to spirits.

First, foremost and upmost....addicts need THE Savior. Jesus knows what this world has done to us and wants to be our Savior. To give us his Spirit to indwell in us for power over sin, to guide and counsel us. Without Christ, all else is shifting sand. I'm surprised, and saddened, that recovery programs run by Christians don't have a relationship with Christ as the foundation of their program, then build on love.
