Hi Claire! These days I was struggling, I already have many string libraries: Berlin Strings, Con Sordino Strings, Symphonic Strings, Strings FX, First Chairs and Peteris Vasks Strings. I didn't feel the need to buy this library, but I've always trusted OT and I bought them today. I immediately opened one of my projects to compare it to the Symphonic Strings and the Berlin Strings, and the difference is incredible! Much more present and detailed, a difference that I would never have imagined if I hadn't tried it on my projects! Trying to hear the different sections I was speechless, the best purchase of the year!! I will never stop thanking OT ❤ Thank you for making this video!
Yes the quality of the samples is next level in my opinion!! So glad you're happy with it - actually that's a good idea about trying it on some existing Berlin strings projects, I might see how some things sound if I sub it in 🤔
I’ve only bought Soundscapes. So far I’m loving it. It’s a great tool. I’d like to get the main library… But I’m going to need a new SSD soon. Your demo here is lovely.
Thanks so much ! Stringscapes is great, definitely gonna be using that a lot for scoring - I've explored it less than this but so far the transcendental FX are my fave, what about you?
@@clairewritesmusic Hard to choose. They’re all so interesting, but I did write something yesterday with Transcendental. At the moment, it just may be my favorite :-)
Not tried that yet myself but it's all recorded in Teldex and the standard mic positions should correspond so I'd expect it to work brilliantly - will give it a go soon!
Thanks for the walkthrough. If the tablet midi controller part of Logic, or is specifically designed for your Arturia keyboard, or is a standalone app which can be used in any DAW?
It's the touch OSC app - can be used for any MIDI CC control but I've got it set up for logic 😊 annoyingly they updated it recently and I lost my personalised logic controller that I'd made, but this standard preset works too 🥲
Claire, you always write such beautiful, emotive pieces. I'd love to know HOW you write? Do you sketch out on a piano and then voice it with the different sections? Do you just write as you go, jumping between sections? So curious. Thanks for this!
Interesting question 🤔 I almost never sketch on piano, as I much prefer hearing the sounds I want to use and getting inspiration from them. Then I'll usually start with a small motif and see how it could develop, writing a bit of each line at a time and progressing in a kind of patchwork. But for this one I actually wrote a graphic score which I've never done before ! So I had an idea of the journey of the piece then tried to fill that out 🙂
Hello. I just got this library. It is quite lovely! Is there a way to alternate between up and down bows without just using the key switches? Otherwise, if I record a line using say only the down bows… do you then go back in and punch in the key switches for the up bows? Thanks in advance!
Hi, yes I do exactly that - record all as down then put in the up bows after :) hard for the library to do it automatically as you may want a few notes on each bow depending on tempo/phrase etc!
@@clairewritesmusic Thank you Claire for confirming. Keep up the great work. You write beautiful music AND create great content that’s also insighful! 🙏
Hello teacher, I would like to ask you for advice, I am composing with the OT Benjamin Wallfish strings, and I am using the Tutti Long Legato Downbow and Upbow, and I want to do layering with the Divisi sections, to make the strings fatter. My question is, since the Divisi sections are smaller than the Tutti, should I lower the gain of the Divisi? For example, if I make a melody with the first violins with Tutti, and I double it the same with the Divisi, do I leave the volumes the same, or do I lower the volume of the Divisi, since there are fewer musicians playing? Please, I would love to know your advice. Thank you very much and a big hug from Spain.
It's the Arturia keylab 88 mkii- and yes keys are weighted. Quite heavy keys which I like, especially good if you're programming percussion using the keyboard as you don't max out on velocity too often 👍
ah you've reminded me that I've actually not got round to sharing it on my channel yet !! I'll put it up here when I get a chance, atm the only place you can find it is on Coffeezilla's channel, sorry about that!
Well, it brings me no joy to say that Hollywood Strings from East West does have some down and up bow samples which you can trigger. That being said, the PLAY engine for such a robust library simply cannot run usefully on a Mac. These BW strings up and down bows sound a lot better too.
Am interested if purchasing this library but I have one quick question... what is the midi controller to your left that is expressing the strings? Thank you.
That's great news... thank you. The Wallfisch Strings seem to be thinner than the VSL libraries I've been using, and that should make them easier to work with when track counts go up. I'll let you know.
Sorry for the bother, but is your OSC app on your computer or in the iPad? Are you using a Cubase template or preset? I haven't been able to connect anywhere with an OSC preset so the forum is guessing it may be a Cubase template. Again, thank you for taking the time to help.
Your composition is mind blowing.. I forgot the purpose of the video while listening.. 😍
🙈 thank you so much - I'd say that's mission accomplished 😄
Thank you for doing this walkthrough. I found it more convincing than the official one from OT.
Thank you so much, glad it was useful! Couldn't cover absolutely everything but didn't want to go on for too long!

😊 thanks so much!!
I wonder if Stravinsky's firebird intro is downbow tutti ? That intro has a heavy sound .
Just lovely! I mean I can't even.. and the strings and the music as well :)
Hey, Claire! Thank you for the video! Answered a lot of question to me! By any chance, have you try layered it with Berlin Con Sordino strings?
I’ve layered Soundscapes with a few of the OT libraries including Con Sordino. As expected, it all blends beautifully. 😀

Does the library come with the reverb effect? If not which one are you using?
The reverb effect is from the surround/atmos mic, if you switch it off you can get a really dry sound though from the close mics
what is the keyboard name and model you used to compose this composition and are the keys weighted?
It's the Arturia keylab 88 mkii- and yes keys are weighted. Quite heavy keys which I like, especially good if you're programming percussion using the keyboard as you don't max out on velocity too often 👍

It's an app called touch OSC - you can use it to control any midi CC you want, I've got it mapped to dynamics & expression :)

uhg.. I once believed I could creat music with string libraries, when I listen to this I know it ain't ever going to happen. So disappointing.
