Welcome to part one of my two part series on the most important computer scientists in history. These men and women built and laid the foundation for the modern computing age, from information, to programming, to the computers themselves. Without these individuals, you would not be watching this video right now - or any video for that matter - the computer you're currently using wouldn't exist, and we would live in a completely different world. The stories of these individuals should be much more widely known, and this is my attempt at helping with that notion. Enjoy!!

My father told me in 1987 when first time I saw computer : if you want to be good in computer, you should be very good in mathematics.

A reminder that Lex's podcasts are actually great when he has CS / Tech related legends on as guests.

Saved this to my watch later! I'm so excited you're doing CS History! I've literally been compiling a playlist of tech biographies and I'm super excited for the rest of this series!

@@amdkits Well.. if you really like your major, try to study deeply. How? Don’t depend only on slides, try reading textbooks 📚 and you well have a deeper understanding of the material, and you’ll have an advantage over your colleagues, along with the confidence you will acquire because you “understand”

I had a friend once... Actually, they were a lot...
One was a computer science major...
He literally had a fall-out with his thesis adviser...
He left his thesis unfinished... He left the university...
    And returned to his hometown.
It took him a long time to return back...
The point being is that... Yeah... I know how hard computer science students work to get a degree...
One of their hardest subjects were "Automata" and Discrete Mathematics...
Not to mention that we are classmates in Physics, Calculus and Algebra courses at the College of Science and Mathematics...
The founding professors of the School of Computer Studies were electrical engineers so I know of the super close relationship between computer science and engineering...
If you're a Computer Engineering major...
    Man...
You're the smartest student in the university...
You get to take the hardest subjects of the College of Engineering and Computer Science...
That was why it was seldom to see a regular graduate of computer engineering every graduation.
In our batch... Only one remained in the program... The others shifted to the electrical or electronics and communication programs...
    Man...

This is right up my alley since I'm not only a tech nerd but also a history nerd (even one of my first tattoos is an Ada Lovelace portrait lol) but I feel I have not looked into CS history enough, specially the beginnings. Will be picking Shannon's book right away, thanks for this content!

Grace Hopper is absolutely one of my favorite scientific minds of all time. Founding member of my favorite field of Compiler. One of the most brilliant minds of all time, and used it proudly and selflessly. Truly an inspriation.

Great list. I think JV Atanasoff who invented the first electronic digital computer in the 1930s at Iowa State College should receive honorable mention.
