      That's the big thing people need to understand. Just like melons. Pumpkins love water. You give them water, you'll be getting winter squash comin out of your ears

    That borer gets me every year. Every now and again I'll get 1 or 2.
    That do, they vine everywhere.

      That borer is the bane of my existence. Always wrecking me. I have discovered though that by July, it's pretty much gone so if you plant late July, you should be fine

    one of my favorite things to grow! SQUASH...i'm always a bit amazed that people don't really know that pumpkins are squash. I do love eating them and had a butternut squash last night. I only wish we could can the squash when it's mashed.. maybe some day. I love the pics of the old posters/signs...I have a love for the WW's propaganda re: victory gardens and war bonds. My sister is actually a real collector of legit items. all that said I am planning on doing more squash cooking video's... lots of folks don't understand cooking anymore... let's show them how to eat them too ~

      Go for it! I'm a huge fan of pumpkin pie so it's a no Brainer to grow pumpkins that I can make pies with but these are so versatile. Roast it then puree and stick it into anything. Pumpkin bread might be a center piece at Thanksgiving this year.
      I am also a huge fan of the old Americana posters and just life in general. The 40s/ 50s is my favorite timeline in American history and I'm just so fascinated with how people lived then. Big fan of art depicting that time frame as well. Bonnie white and Terry Redlin come to mind

      If you haven't tried it yet, I really like Cushaw. Tastes like "smoky pumpkin"
      Great in pies

      hey would you be willing to send me a few of those "cheese" seeds? I'll trade you something

    • @PalmettoPrepared
      @PalmettoPrepared  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sure thing, send me your address on IG and I'll send them out early next week.
      I've never tried cushaw. Seen them but that's one of the many varieties I have zero experiences with.
      Waltham butternut and long Island cheese produce so heavy, they are great for SC

    Awesome video and thank you for sharing these tips and yes pumpkin seeds are very good for you. And you need to try to control your pumpkin plants before they take over the whole garden. And i noticed that i was already subscribed to you wich i totally forgot lol.

      This is exactly why I plant them in July. When the rest of the garden is being put to bed so I don't mine the sprawling so much

      Yep. It was 42 that morning. Nice and chilly. The older I get, the more i care about comfort. I had to add in the fact it's so good. Too many people don't know how to cook them anymore. But I'm a pumpkin pie freak

    Hi Palmetto! We live in the north and plan to store our pumpkins in our unheated garage. Will they freeze out there, or should we put them in are basement which stays cool and is dark. Also if they sit on something, will they develop a bruise on the bottom?

    • @PalmettoPrepared
      @PalmettoPrepared  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great questions. Definitely dont want them to freeze. Cellar that stays between 45-60 would ideal. But I keep mine in the bottom cabinets of an old hutch for that one would originally display their good plates and what not. So mine rest on wood. Cardboard would also work. Just try not to let them touch as that could help spread rot if one goes bad

      hi BeeLady, as long as the pumpkin (squash) is cured it won't bruise. How do you know if it's cured? take your thumbnail and try to break the pumpkin skin...if it pierces easily then it's not cured yet and should not be stored for long term until it's cured...how long does that take? if the pumpkin is ripe it will happen in days...if it's picked early it may take weeks for it to age...good luck..oh BTW My pumpkins last as long as Palmetto says they will...so good for you to!
