If the dart doesn't look like falling out on its own, it's a bust and you should retrieve the dart. If it's not a bust, however, say, you were going for double 13 and hit double 4, then you can try to do this but it is very risky. I once actually had something similar to that. I was sat on 98, hit treble 20 and the second dart hit single 19 but was hanging in there. The third dart knocked it out of there but unfortunately that dart didn't hit the double 19 but double 3...
Wrong the dart HAS to be retrieved to count so yes you could do what was done here and hit a single 13 with 12 required and if the 13 drops out and you hit D6 you would win the leg.
