    But let's be real. The coaching staff has always known she is tender. Kiya needs a 2 pass routine and to be paced properly. She didn't need to be on floor so early in the season.

    The commentators and a lot of people think that happened with the short landing, but I personally don’t think so. I had Achilles tendinitis in college too and the back handspring punch INTO my next skill is what got me. If you play her last pass slowly, you can see she’s not in a tight pike, she doesn’t have her typical take off, and really closely on her punch, her ankle stretched more than a usual back handspring punch. And what’s crazy, is that during this exact routine I was just talking about how she still uses so much power on her backhand springs with tendinitis in her Achilles bc after I tore mine, I wish I would’ve transferred to round offs before the inevitable happened. Get well soon Kiya, road to recovery!

      @Eowyn126 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Same thing happened to Lynzee from Denver last year :// it makes sense. In gymnastics you rebound off your toes; your heels don’t hit the ground.. and if you’re trying to get that much momentum out of the back handspring, it’s a lot of pressure on your Achilles. I hate that it always happens on the takeoff bc the poor gymnast still has to land 😬

    • @gc5808
      @gc5808 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@Eowyn126 Luckily when I tore my Achilles on my back handspring. In my mind I was going for a double Arabian but as soon as I felt a snap, I did a tuck full, landed one leg to a backwards candle stick basically so I was good there but I can just imagine still going for the skill knowing you still have to land safely. Let me tell you, just in my tuck full up in the air, it felt like I was up there for 30 seconds because so many thoughts were going through my mind as of what just happened lol

    Wishing her a speedy recovery, but ultimately there is a problem with womens ncaa gymnastics, and this is it right here. We need to talk about it. Injuries after injuries, particularly torn Achilles, acls, etc. the ncaa womens gymnastics model focuses so much on making their programs fun and easier (as compared to their previous JO career, still not easy, but relatively much easier), and so on. But they clearly aren’t doing what they need to do to prevent these injuries. Now I don’t want to come off of insensitive, but someone needs to point it out. Gymnastics is extremely hard on the body and you need to be in extremely good shape and really damn strong to prevent injuries (even those who are strong and in good shape can still have accidents, but when the injuries are happening at this rate, it is not from chance alone). The ncaa girls simply are not in good enough shape to do the skills they do, and in doing so we see way too many of these injuries. I could go on a huge rant of all the things that are problematic about womens gymnastics and ncaa womens gymnastics in general. But ultimately there are biological, physiological, and anatomical changes that will happen to pretty much all women who are in college. And if you don’t account for these changes, injuries will happen and it’s terrible to see. Additionally, so many of the girls have had to deal with so many negative experiences in their gyms prior to college and when they get to college, the college model tries to make gymnatics a much more positive experience and much more fun (as it should be anyways, but that’s a different rant). But having fun and being positive should not at the expensive of these athletes blowing out their Achilles, acls, etc.

    Why are the rest of her teammates huddled in a circle? Shouldn't they be supporting her?

    • @hnichole
      @hnichole หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well firstly, they're not allowed to go up to her. But secondly, I coach middle schoolers, and I've found after my personal experiences as an athlete and as a coach that you actually don't want teammates running up right away. It's really overwhelming for the person injured to suddenly have 10-20 people crowd into your personal space when you're in pain and start asking "are you okay? are you okay? are you okay?" It's better to let the medical professional and/or coach get in there first to assess the severity of what happened and offer immediate treatment (depending on the injury). Once the initial shock and pain wear off, then you can have teammates go support.
      It's the same as a sport like football or basketball; all you can do is take a knee (or in this case, form a prayer circle) for your teammate while the medical professionals deal with the situation.

  • @Chels-fz5uq
    @Chels-fz5uq ปีที่แล้ว +6

    • @yumemi99
      @yumemi99 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @arthurau9231
      @arthurau9231 ปีที่แล้ว

      How can gymnasts take out other gymnasts when they don't compete against each other but rather against themselves to get the best score. It's not as if two opposing gymnasts are on the floor together at the same time. Also, NFL players regularly compete while injured all the time as well. Gymnasts are more fragile and injury prone than NFL players are since gymnastics is a non contact sport.
