  • We are living the American dream driving the Historic Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica but we are doing some detours to visit some places we like.
    In this 35th episode, we visit and experience the eruption of Crystal Geyser at Green River in Utah. Enjoy the ride with us! ;)
    Crystal Geyser is located on the east bank of the Green River approximately 4.5 miles (7.2 km) downstream from Green River, Utah, United States. It is a rare example of a cold-water carbon dioxide driven geyser; geothermal activity does not play a role in the activity of the geyser. The ground water near the geyser has significant quantities of dissolved carbon dioxide, along with substantial underground gas accumulations in the surrounding area. Saturation of the aquifer with CO2 creates enough pressure to force groundwater through the geyser and out on to the surface.
    The geyser erupts sometimes to a height of 130 feet (40 m) or more. During 2005, a study of the timing of the eruptions found them to be bimodal. About 66% of eruptions in the study occurred about 8 hours after the previous eruption, and the rest about 22 hours after. The geyser erupts for an average of one hundred minutes a day, with eruptions either lasting 7-32 minutes, or 98-113 minutes. The bimodal distribution of eruptions is not a well-understood pattern, but is found in other geysers, both cold-water and otherwise.
    Between eruption events, the water level is approximately seventeen feet below the surface of the geyser-at the level of the water table. In the preface to an eruption, water surfaces, fills the pond around the geyser, and begins to bubble. Bubbling events occur with increasing frequency in the time leading up to an eruption, but are not constant; bubbling events last for a few minutes, with a few minutes of calm in between. Bubbling events at the main geyser also frequently alternate with bubbling events at natural side-pools.
    The current form of the geyser was created by an exploration well drilled in 1935 in attempt to locate oil. The well was originally 2,600 feet (790 m) deep, but an earlier owner of the land partially filled it in, meaning that the well is now only a couple hundred metres deep.
    The area surrounding the modern geyser is covered in a thick layer of orange travertine. Near the river, adjacent to the modern orange travertine, are substantial deposits of white travertine, perhaps reflecting the original depositional environment of the geyser (before the exploratory well was drilled.)
    The first written record of Crystal Geyser comes from the report of the Powell Geographic Expedition of 1869, July 13, 1869.

      Grazi mille! Noi anche in realtà non ne sapevamo molto prima di questa esperienza. Abbiamo scopreto i diversi tipi di geyser e non vediamo l'ora di vederne di altri tipi!

    I got stranded there 15 years ago on a road trip with my mom and siblings. We got stranded in green river stay at a hotel. The maid of the hotel knew we were stranded so took us out to the geyser. It erupted and was so much fun

      Grazie mille Libera! 😆😉👍

    I was stationed close to here in the Army for missile firings in 1975. A group of us went here one day but never saw it erupt. The road going to it went by our old barracks site and missile firing bunkers.

    Good job boys we did it again, who ever thought installing a pipe in the middle of the desert would attract anyone?
    Next time we wait 14 hours before we push the button to activate the pump....do you think we should increase the pressure...wait nah they'll just have to be happy with 3 feet of water.

    Now, that was worth the wait. Fortunately you guys did the majority of the waiting ;)
    By the way, I'm curious how you keep this adventure afloat financially. I know you worked for two or three weeks in Canada at the restaurant but the amount you likely made there wouldn't seem like it would take you to where you are now. How do you do it?

    • @leaw
      @leaw  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, in Canada we had a working holiday visa and we worked as construction workers and in restaurants, with that amount of money we were able to buy the truck, the camper, the drone and the car insurance. To inspire people to not be scared to travel and follow their dreams we left Italy with 1770 euro each th-cam.com/video/3jXjcBmTf4U/w-d-xo.html to show that everything is possible even with a small amount of money. When we arrived in Toronto we finished the money and we flew back to Italy where we stayed 4 months. We won a travel contest and we were able to sign 3 sponsorship contracts (Sara was a manager in the fashion industry and Luca was an influencer). We have a good numbers of followers on Instagram and we create contents for some brands. Unfortunately is not enough. We are working hard for creating the videos on YT but at the moment we are not earning enough money for all the effort and job we do. Free content isn't free and we are thinking to do Patron asap ;)
