I spent most weekends there from 1969-1976. My Dad sold used hand tools there almost every weekend. I first heard Credence Clearwater music there, smelled incense for the first time and rode the giant slide hundreds of times. There was a joke booth in the same spot every weekend that sold itching powder, cigarette loads, fake dog doo and so much more. It wasn't nearly as commercialized and it was much bigger then. So happy to see it still around!
So, basically, it's whatever is most convenient for the developers - not the swap meet vendors. In a nutshell the economy isn't favorable for the builders so they use the swap meet vendors (allow them to remain, for now) to keep the area occupied. Keeping the area occupied serves to prevent the area from decay - and blight. As soon as the economy becomes favorable - the swap meet vendors will get kicked out.
I went there as customer. Right by the front I bought a belt for 8 Dollard. An hour later when I got all the way to the back some one was selling belts for 5 dollars. There are cheaper ways in most businesses:>
What wondeful memories. Places like this cannot be built like disneyland - they grow organically out of the soul of the people and are so enjoyed as touching the soul. The sterile rich don't understand.
there are 20k air bnb's in San Jose and who knows who many other properties that are being withheld. Make it less profitable via taxes to have short term rentals and the need for some of these projects will be lessened.
I hope that the open air fencing operation and overt illegal aliens and counterfeit cartels are sent somewhere else personally. Having an open air stolen goods place has lost its charm to me anyway. The legit outfits should get together and open a place not infected as deeply...
That's a shame to close or move them! They've been there forever and such a SJ icon.
SAVE THE CULTURE! SAVE THE FLEA MARKET!
That was my go to place since I was a kid
Isn't some way of declaring the flea market some sort historical preservation status?
Historical preservation of a fencing operation 🤣 only in California
Early 2000s pulga was goat
I am so happy thank you so much
Oh please they’ll get way longer than 2 years. City will extort the developers until they bail on the project.

The aguas drinks stands are nasty and expensive.
So they can build more apartments for these Indians and Asians 😂
