In this video titled EU4 A to Z - Can I RULE THE WORLD With ONLY ONE CITY I do a playthrough as Dortmund in Europa Universalis 4 1.33 France. This is the series titled A to Z where I attempt to play every* nation in EU4 in alphabetical order. Of course I had to remove some nations so the challenge doesn't get too boring. In this video I play as the nation of Dortmund , and I attempt to get on the great powers list without actually expanding outside of my initial starting province. So let's see if I managed to do it! East Frisia needs a counterpart. Create a colonial nation and call it West Frisia.
Colonizing can get expensive, so perhaps a bankruptcy is in the future.
East Frisia should be in Japan while West Frisia should be in North America. They went so far West, it's closer for them to go east.
Frysia (or Friesland or Fryslân) is actually west Frysia. They are seperated by the Lauwers river. The seperation came from a clan dispute between the "schieringers" and the "vetkopers". They were united until 1413.

@@tolia5587 About 60% to 40% Dutch - Frysian I think. It depends on the area in Fryslân. Leeuwarden has mostly Dutch and also "stedsfrysk" (city Frysian) which is Frysian with a lot of Dutch grammar.
The Frisian languages are related to the Anglic languages, with Old Frisian and Old English being very similar. Get a Frisian monarch on the English throne.
Or form England as Frisia
My Dutch friend told me the Fries have a saying about how similar English and Fries are, which goes something like "English and Fries go together like chips and cheese"

Btw, espionage ideas would be pretty good as a third idea set for playing like this as it gives you +33% manpower and the ability to forge claims for your subjects.

Quick tip- if you're playing tall, make sure to Expand Infrastructure! Each level is a small amount of admin points in return for a ~5% boost to basically everything in a province (including dev cost and building cost), and you can do it once every 15 development, which is a big help if you're an OPM. It also lets you build extra manufactories. The button is a bit hard to find, it's the little green plus button underneath the buildings in a province (the other bar is the downgrade bar for infrastructure).
for dev cost it gives -25% per click
Knowledge drop: Patriziat means a council of rich burgers, most of the time salesmen, which lead a city like Dortmund or the best of them all... Nürnberg.
One Patrizier = wealthy burgher (in ancient times, they were nobles)
The patrizi were also nobles in ancient Rome (the word patrimony comes from them)
Set up a random New World with high Fantasy Nations and set up a colony called West Frisia, while getting the Merchant From a trade company in China, so you can have an EAST East Frisia Company.
If you plan to play Hesse how about doing a "Hussite Hesse" as a secondary goal type of thing?

As East Frisia, migrate as far east as you can before the Age of Absolutism without ever owning more than ten provinces at a time. Perfect marks if you've reached the Pacific Ocean, great try if you're fewer than five provinces away, pretty good if you're fewer than ten.

Like maybe have a challenge that 100k ming soldiers have to die of attrition when in a war with you. Defendive ideas and stuff like that 💕
As frisia you should attempt to recreate the borders of magna frisia by conquering the northern european coastline from zeeland (netherlands) to the top of jutland in (denmark) and re-create the rage of the frisii tribes by conquering rome and converting it to frisian culture. As a final show of strength and true show of friese frijheit you can dismantle the HRE. Should be a fun game and not too difficult for someone at your skill level! Just imagine the buckets of ducats you will be earning through trade

Exploiting developement from subjects is very op. Getting up to 500 dev in a single province is pretty easy to do

Frisia kinda sounds like "freeze, ya?", so you should own all glacier provinces in the world.
And culture convert to carribean or jamaican culture if that is possible

Hey I'm loving the videos, quick question tho, after doing the A-Z (or alongside idk), are you thinking of doing an A-Z in a mod like Anbennar?
I did a hamburger run going for bunte kuh and played as a free city until around 1575 when I finally annexed my subjects and formed Hanover and it was one of the most fun runs I had. Not sure if you were doing it but expand infrastructure is huge when you are playing tall.
Edit: also you can fill annex countries and releases them before you unpause and you don’t lose your free city status. So you get the subjects with less malus.
I was just thinking about this as a challenge! My mind has been read . . .

Dear Hawk,
I had an idea for an A-Z Challenge that you could use for any nation. I call it 'No better Friend, no worse Enemy'. To complete the challenge, fully annex 7 rivals and never break an alliance or refuse a call to arms. It would probably work well when you start as a small nation.

East Frisia is noted for its consumption of tea and its tea culture. You may try to become the leader in tea production.
As "East" "Frisia", conquer all the "frigid" provinces towards your "East"

If anyone else wants to ever do that, don't forget to also expand the infrastructure of your province (small button with a plus on it in the buildings section).
It provides a lot of really nice benefits, and basically no downsides, since you don't care about your governing capacity (As long as you don't expand)

East Frisia either go further east to Crimea and pirate the trade going into Constantinople or make Pirate New West Frisia in a Random New World (for the privateering bonus in the ideas). I also like the idea of spreading your dynasty to as many countries as possible

I think continuing this run would be interesting like, for example you could vassalize all the german nations and be the ruler of Germany as an opm. You would basically become a coalition yourself no cb-ing the ottomans and winnig by sheer numbers(if you call in your allies it wouldn't even be challenging to beat them if you have all the germanic cultured territories as vassals). Just an idea, great video tho really enjoyed it.
Do you become Emperor if every HRE nation is your vassel? It would be funny if your president became Emperor.

Quarbit did a similar run a while back but he concentrated development in all his HRE vassals. All you have to do is dev a little after to kind of balance things out for opinion. He ended up with over 1k development in his one province.
Not possible anymore as they have changed the calculation for concentrating development

As Friesian unite the old Friesian lands(from the south of Denmark to Zeeland in the Netherlands) and to finish it of take "revenge on" the Frank's so take or make all the Frankish lands your vassal
I saw other channels do this and was wondering when you'd try this challenge playstyle. Doing it on A to Z let's you have the fun of having it on your channel, while preventing it looking like you're copying video ideas. Very cool
The only way this run could have been more satisfying would have been if you showed Dortmund integrating all the vassals at the end.
This should have been done before the concentrate dev and pillage capital nerf.
I played prussia and it didnt spawn a center either. I think it’s bugged but it’s so unused that the devs probably dont realize it.

i like to take diplo, get my big allies to carry me in wars and pillage everyones capitals and take all the ducats from 10+ minors at once
You could have set all of you vassals to marches since you never planned to integrate them.
Anyway - great campaign. I might actually try something like that some time.

You didn't get a center of reformation because you were bordering a province that already had one.

The HRE nations might be some of the most cursed parts of A to Z. This isn’t that cursed but still.
Comment 17 of asking Hawk to play as a random nation of each generic idea group under every A-Z video.
State maintenance with just a capital state ? The reform with trade would have yielded much more gold I believe, especially if you can steal your subject's trade once the'yre loyal
