    Thank you for running a competition that I was fortunate enough to win, but even moreso for doing it for a good cause. My playgroup will be all over the cube once the lockdown is over. Also, thanks for producing such good videos which is the reason I subscribe 👍

    This was an awesome video, I'll definitely be adding a couple of these to buff up my cantrip density.
    A video like this on removal would be awweeeesome as I understand removal density can make or break how fun a cube plays.

      Oof, I just counted, I have 7 in blue (discovery//dispersal is one) dunno how I'll fit 9 more!
      Also, videos like this on bread and butter basic effect density such as removal, ramp, counter spells, burn would be great!

    Nice video! Nonetheless, I can't agree with all things told here. I'd like to share my approach to card draw in cube.
    Methinks, it's useful to distinguish spells that give you card SELECTION - cantrips, looters, scryers and others alike (you gain +0 cards in hand, when you cast a Preordain, for instance), and spells that give you card ADVANTAGE (repeatable JTMS's brainstorming puts you up on the number of cards in hand). That being said, I'm leaning towards the proportions of Consrtucted formats: 6 pieces of card selection, and 2 card advantage spells in a control deck. I find it very important, since lack of cantrips can lead to a control deck being unable to find their lands or early answers when they're needed, and lacking big card draw may open gates for your opponent to climb back into the game once it's already in the late stage.
    However, in my experience, even this density of card draw effects doesn't allow control to reduce the number of lands. In my cube a control player has much smaller chances of winnig the game with 16 lands in their list than with 17. Control needs to hit their land drops timely, and, surprisingly, 1 land matters changes their consistency that much. Maybe, in my environment the competition is very tight, but that's what we all strive to, don't we? :)

    Modern storm either plays 17 lands and a package of 11-12 cantrips (serum visions, opt, sleight of hand)

    Love the topic. I didn't know about a few of these cantrips. But I agree with some others that a video on non-blue cantrips would be awesome. I like the effect cantrips have on magic, causing less non-games, and it'd be great to see a video on the non-blue ones. Stuff like ransack the lab, winding way, elvish visionary, satyr wayfinder (kinda), etc.

      Discovery/Dispersal, ransack the lab, and once upon a time are my favorite non blue cantrips.

    You forgot to mention the 0 mana cantrip that any deck can run: Gitaxian Probe. Card draw in my cube is usually a problem in the other 4 colors. It's not easy to find solid draw effects and decks risk running out of gas too quickly.

    • @cubefortwo
      @cubefortwo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gitaxian Probe is colorless. I would run in in Mono Red aggro without blinking.

    Much has been said about Blue cantrips already, and even people who elect not to run them in their cubes are still familiar with the many positives of including blue cantrips. What about cantrips in colors other than Blue? Stuff like Ransack the Lab, Discovery / Dispersal, even Night's Whisper. That's what I hoped this video would cover.

    Hey love your channel. I love plus one plus one counter archetype and want to put it in cube not sure how to make it work. The Cube’s power level is a little more than the cardkingdom starter cube. I just don’t know if it’s strong enough honestly. Maybe an archetype video??? Anyways you guys are awesome

    • @cubefortwo
      @cubefortwo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One Plus One counters is just not there as a strong archetype, I think if you are talking about Card Kingdom power levels/retail draft power levels, then you can probably do it, but anything stronger than that, and I am probably better off just drafting the most efficient beaters and removal.

    What is your view on running more than one copy of certain staple spells in a cube? Would having 2 copies of preordain or ponder, or 2 lightning bolts really feel repetitive when drafting? I would much rather run that than for example Peek just to get another cantrip.

    • @cubefortwo
      @cubefortwo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am not a fan of breaking singleton, but that is a playgroup/curator decision. If your cube is large, say, 450 and up, I doubt it will feel very different if you are only running 2 of each. There will be corner cases where it matters. For example, I am playing against a R/X deck, they have used their bolt already. It is my turn, and they have 1 untapped mountain, you will have to keep in mind they could still have another bolt, and even if you only saw 1 bolt in games 1&2, does not mean they don't have 2 copies during game 3. Some one will misplay and assume bolt is no longer an option, and get burned by it.

    Git probe as well? Not really blue but defs a cantrip. Also, 16 cantrips at 360? I run 11 including cards like nimble obstructionist and remand...
    Might have to think about adding some more :/

    • @cubefortwo
      @cubefortwo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I count Git. probe as colorless, and frequently the blue player will not be able to pick it up during draft.

  • @joshwoodcock3656
    @joshwoodcock3656 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I knew I wasn't running enough cantrips but damn I run nowhere near 22.

    • @cubefortwo
      @cubefortwo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can also run discovery//dispersal and cards like ransack the lab.

    • @cubefortwo
      @cubefortwo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Nicholas Lewis Not really. The blue deck only has access to once upon a time if it is simic. technically, ransack the lab, which I mentioned above, does not count either. I have seen many a Golgari deck play it, which means the blue player does not have access to it unless they are in dimir, and beat other B/X players to it.

    • @cubefortwo
      @cubefortwo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Nicholas Lewis maybe, but I would bet not. how often are you in a non-blue deck and you see ponder and think... I should draft that and splash blue?

      Decks in my cube have been suffering from mana screw and mana flood too hard. I'm making some cuts to add cheap cantrips or similar effects in all colors. I think this will improve the gameplay a lot.

    This video made my cube better. But how many burn spells should I run in a 450 cube?

    • @cubefortwo
      @cubefortwo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      without knowing anything about your cube or environment. I would say that burn should be 25% of your red section. That is a rough guess.

    • @somewhathandsome5288
      @somewhathandsome5288 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cubefortwo I meant as an idea for a video because I remember when I started my cube, my red section was sorta dumpster fire or whatever red card I liked. Would've been great to have a video available at the time I built it. Also #ongabongasquad

    Disagree on the moxes and the comparisson with vintage. This reads to me like a confirmation bias when you saw that your theroey was "correct" and you counted 11 cantrips.
    Also I think only counting blue cantrips is not a good heuristic for a cube over all,
    also also Quicken.

    Hey there. In this time of self isolation, wehre its hard and not good to get some people together, i would realy like to see something like the Cube for two series like the one by life beginns at 20. Me and my brother play Cube on the Planchase battlefields (only static ability). It brings a realy nice variance to deckbilding and powerlevel of the cards. Will there be something like this in the future of this canal? Thanks a lot, have a nice day.

    Thank you so much for these great videos! I also had some time lately to work on my cube. It seems that after watching your videos, there's still a lot to do to support all archetypes correctly. What do you think about a green white enchantment archetype (Constellation etc.) in cube? Do you think this gets too parasidic or would there be a way to include them nicely into a cube?

    Great video, as always. I wish to request a topic: how to introduce combo archetypes in cube without having to many useless cards during the draft. Thank you

    • @cubefortwo
      @cubefortwo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I talk about it a little towards the end of my parasitism video: th-cam.com/video/vJd_ZSHQxsM/w-d-xo.html the TLDR version is you have to try and include cards that support your combo deck that also function in other decks. I use the example of frantic search for storm as it can also be played in blue decks as a mediocre cantrip. It will largely depend on what the combo is. Also, keeping your cube small will help as well. This will reduce the number of bad more narrow combo support cards you have to play.
