  • Who said a small displacement motorcycle can't do long distance touring!
    In this video, watch as I bring my little 2012 153cc Yamaha FZ16 from Singapore all the way to Genting Highlands mountain resort in Malaysia. This journey covers more than 420km one way, which correlates into a staggering 840++km two ways.
    Also, do look out for the highest speed I managed to hit on this run somewhere in the video ;)

    Really awesome, ride. I visited Genting Highlands 11 years back and really joyfully watching it again with your video. I am from Sri Lanka and a Happy owner to the Similar Model since 2014. Cheers....

      Adriel Goh I memorised the major roads to take before setting off to avoid having to stop and check the map. On one occasion I had to ask a local biker for directions as downtown KL is a complicated maze haha. Other than that, the only thing I had to deal with was immense backache and butt pain from the uncomfortable seat on the FZ16.

    Did you stop midway up genting to re-tune your carb? I'm planning for a trip there but not sure if I need to re-tune the carb.

      @theinterportal  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Aloysius ng I didn’t re-tune the carb. You’ll probably just experience a bit of choking at high revs but nothing too extreme. It’s definitely rideable.

    does this vibrate alot on high speed?
    do you recommend for new class 2b riders?

    • @theinterportal
      @theinterportal  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      GankKi the vibration is acceptable. However, I would recommend getting a slightly newer bike as most FZ16v1s are getting really old now and might be a pain to maintain.
      The newer FZ-Sv2 is a great buy and the fuel efficiency is much better compared to the FZ16.

    FZ16 maybe kinda lack of power compare fz150i. But me as a owner fz16 2012 reg ( indonesia ) .. it is kinda trigger my adrenaline tho..
    But since 1st day i never let it stock when it got into my hands even used condition. Lots of change since then..
    Parts and accessories been replaced and modified
    1) Sprocket 15-48. ( you could use from R15 V1). At this moment top speed around 115-118km/h 😂😂😂 or you can use aftermarket one with lightweight part
    2) Custom Caliper from used parts ( Caliper from Lc 135 (my)/jupetir mx( id ) complete set with arm..disc from wave 110 (my)/jupiter ( id )..master pump you can use from R15 or whatever you like but i recommended from r15 v1 or LC135 or Fz150i.. brake line from aftermarket. All this stuff i custom by myself from milling machine for adaptor and including a lil bit weld and drilling.
    3) Carb..i use from NSR 250 ( PE 28 ) or similar like keihin 28 or pwk or whatever that is ( you need to warm your engine before to tune up). For setting just 1/4 anti clockwise or just imagine clock that set up between 9 or 10 o clock or in the middle between 9-10. Still use same throttle cable..intake and adaptor.
    4) Clutch plate i use from kawasaki ss or you can use from R15 v1 or fz150i.
    And I don't use air filter.. i don't know why but kinda hassle too since i need to cleaning up everything all internal and external parts every 1 - 2 month🤣🤣🤣
    Everything still stock bottom end except i don't use a gasket engine block because i wanted to increase the compression. Of course you need also to use higher octane above 90 to avoid such knocking or pre ignition. Also use a bit colder spark plug than a factory set up
    Fun fact..i don't use motorcycle lubricant oil from day one. I use from car lubricant from pertamina fastron 15w40 or Mobil 15w40 or motul 15w40. All above lubricants are use for turbocharger and that's why to maintain engine temperature aka to keep it cool your engine such a hot weather but please to change your oil and filter below 10.000km trip or once a month
    If got chances..i wanna bore up to 200cc..oilcooler and slap turbocharger 😍😍

    Did you already try 15-38 sprocket? How’s the result?

    • @theinterportal
      @theinterportal  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’ve ran with 15-38 for quite awhile. It’s great for touring but not ideal for daily commuting as the 1st gear is geared way too low and the acceleration is miserable.
      With 15-38 you can expect 90km/h to be around 5800rpm, and 110km/h at around 7300rpm. Really comfortable revs for cruising up on the North South Expressway, but mind you at 110km/h the bike doesn’t have much more to give. I’d reckon the top speed flat out with this gearing is 118km/h, whereas 14-38 would give you 124km/h because of the power band.
      In this video, my bike was using 14-40, I think 14-38 would be the ideal gearing for comfortable revs on the expressway as well as decent acceleration.

    • @theinterportal
      @theinterportal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely not trouble free. I've had to overhaul this bike, and yet it still makes some weird noises from its engine every now and then. Fuel efficiency is also pretty terrible now - i get like 26-28km/l. Other than that, I absolutely love my FZ, I love the cornering characteristics and the intake sound when i rev it past 8000rpm.
