This recalls No I Can't, Goddamn These Vampires, and the Tallahassee era in ways that I love, pushed forward with that great, intense saxophone outro. Can't wait - must wait, but can't.

So I have heard of this band from a co worker. Never listened to any of there songs. But I got pumped when I heard they where doing a D n D album. I have to say. This is a good song. I will buy the album.
The more I listen to this song and cadaver sniffing dog I love it more and more. I think this album will be like beat the champ and grow better and better the more you listen.
So very excited to have this to look forward to! And if you're complaining about the same chord progression as "No I Can't," either try to find a way to get over it, or don't listen to it (or at least don't drop annoying comments complaining about it). Learn to understand The Mountain Goats.
This is the first song by The Mountain Goats that I have heard. Looking forward to the Wizards of the Coast collaboration stream even though their tweet was pretty awful.
The most amazing thing about to Mountain Goats is that if you ask for introductory records from 10 different fans, you will get 10 different answers. I say We Shall All Be Healed + Devil in The Shortwave:) Enjoy this life changing event.
@@dangshnizzle6929 This. Sunset Tree is probably the best introductory record, but I'd say a three way tie for second is between All Hail West Texas, Full Force Galesburg and Transcendental Youth.
May this drip of inspiration from your soul above not dissipate., but rather have positive and lasting effect, that from this event onwards you should live your life with higher consciousness. Never thought I’d see PT name-dropped in the comments of a Mountain Goats vid of all places! Not that I’m complaining 😅 And yeah, I suppose the percussion sounds a bit like a Gavin beat
Wow. If the whole album is like this single, this is the greatest achievement since Heretic Pride. Shows a maturity (after all, he's married with kids now, and a novelist) yet keeps that edge he had when he was . . . well, when he was younger.
Oh great I cant wait for John to emotionally wreck me while writing absolutely glorious songs about one of my favorite things. first it was Pro Wrestling, now its D&D and fantasy tropes.....
Its good, I like it...but...as is so often the case when TMG goes for denser musical production, John's voice (the most singular and elemental component of their music) kind of gets lost in the shuffle. Don't get me wrong, I love the jam sesh at the end - I just wish they would grab the knob for John's mic and keep pushing it up until the plastic snaps off...
I can't believe we are in the era of 6 minute mountain goats songs
Watching one of my favorite hobbies and favorite bands merge. Am I awake?
How glorious
not only 6 minute songs but there's what, 3? 4? guitars all layered up here? They're really doubling down after Goths
@Christopher Bingham iTunes says Going Invisible 2 is only 3:05 long, but An Antidote For Strychnine is 6:04.
He's gone from one extreme (short songs buried in tape hiss) to the other (long, borderline over produced songs with practically every high end recording gimmick)

I know not many people like the saxophone outro but to me that's the best part!
John Darnielle is one of the greatest songwriters of our time
Not really. His songwriting comes off as pretentious and sophomoric.
Saying words like pretentious and sophomoric comes off as pompous and naive

I did the album artworks! :)
Love this song
Very cool:) How did John get in contact with you is there a story there?
Very beautiful.
Super cool piece of art! Nice work!
effing beautiful! whenever i finally publish my Saga... yeah, you're the first one i contact for cover art!
How did you make an apocalypse look cozy?
I was already really into this song before the sax outro came in and blew me away.

This is going to be amazing.
"Younger" debuted at #37 on the New Alternative 40 Chart this week!
Are there any charts that take into account streams these days? Or do they all
@@dangshnizzle6929 The New Alternative 40 does.
If ever song is at this quality I feel like it has the potential to be my new favorite mountain goats album of all time
This recalls No I Can't, Goddamn These Vampires, and the Tallahassee era in ways that I love, pushed forward with that great, intense saxophone outro. Can't wait - must wait, but can't.
@Joel Chin yeah bassically - it's incredibly close but not exactly the same. It's got to be a direct reference I guess?
Man this is some Cold War spy fantasy, and I really dig it.
I never thought to put numbers stations and cyanide pills in my D&D game, now I think I have to.
when i heard of this i thought of the mercenary company my players are trying to make right now lol.
Sounds like you should play Gumshoe.
Spycraft man.

I heard voices once like these when I was younger
Blood rushing to my face
I know that sweet warm taste

Storm right down that hill

*map out, not 'map of'. 'Map' is a verb there. The first verse is all actions.
Gonna guess it should be 'Knight' not 'night'

anyone else getting vivid mid 2000s tmg vibes from this in the best way possible????
Joel Chin ok
Joel Chin which one?

@Joel Chin - "Barely Breathing" by Duncan Sheik,
It's possible that I heard this song at 2am while sleeping on a friend's sofa and tried to hug the screen like a teddy bear.
That opening drum beat has me wanting to yell *HELLO THERE, THE ANGEL FROM MY NIGHTMARE*
Mountain Goats ruleth the land. I don't know if this album will be any good, but it definitely won't be boring.
Love this!! Chords reminds me of another classic TMG song "No I Can't".
I am so excited for this album! DRAGON NOIR.
I've been stuck in mountain goats past for a good few years. This gonna be the one to pull me back into the present.
Oof dang geez this is good.
Also: that album art!!
Also also: here's hoping the next season of I Only Listen to The Mountain Goats features this.
Haha, that's how I discovered them, glad I found that podcast!
A new style called "Dragon Noir"?. I can dig it.
HOLY HELL YES
sonido sublime que te transporta a otro mundo, generoso en el desarrollo, fantastico.
Definitely hearing the same guitar line from "No I Can't" - Em7, Em#6, Emb6, Em!!!

Love the song and the concept. You are literally the band that inspired me to make my own concept album, funny enough it was a D&D inspired album!
This has been listened to over 40,000 times now and I think I'm responsible for at least half of those at this point.
Currently working on a new noir campaign because of this song, thanks for the inspiration and great song.

It's already better than Goths
"If you're not nervous, you're not growing" is probably a suitable way to describe TMG's musical methodology.
What do you think now? I've got New Album Bias, but I rank it almost tied with Tallahassee and Beat The Champ (ie, top five)
