As a matter of fact the jean genie was the first single record I bought in my life. Ever since then I kept an eye on Bowie and upto his death he fascinated me....as many other people did I am sure.
I know someone commented on this before! ....But its true! ....While Bowie and Ronno are doing there little thing if you watch between 3:13 and 3:30 you notice the end of Ronson's guitar neck gets caught on Bowie's outfit netting on His back and Bowie does a little improv to hide it while Ronno gets it untangled and they never miss a beat! ....This is classic Bowie stuff! ....Love the outtakes and Thanx for posting them!

The only segment you will NOT see is when David goes down on Ronson's guitar strings...all one sees is a band member looking on,kind of smirking.ABC could NOT show this back in the day...I was 16 and saw it the very eve it aired,on the legendary program, The Midnight Special.
ABC telly cut the going down on Mick moments....out the original...you see the fellas laughing , but no cam shot...I was 15 and saw the entire uncut the following weekend in Toronto,Canada at a head shop on Yonge St....loooooong before video was ever so on the market...all best n thanks for the memories kid...Dr. Jeff in beautiful BowieLand...Toronto,CANADA!!!!
Interestingly enough... I have just worked it out, the end of the guitar has got tagled within the netting of Bowie costume at the back, and he is discreetly trying to detech it, and David is covering him by resting his arm on his shoulder.
Oh, and forget the hand over crotch ,banned idea. You clearly see the camera in the solo, going away to the guitarist,as David went down on Mick's axe. Photos of that scene are still everywhere... Cheers! J
yes, there was a 'crotch -hand' on Dave but ABC found it tooooo risque for 1973,even after 1:am, whereever we may have all resided that weekend in 1973,time zone,telly laws etc.....Dave painted that entire Marquue Club to appear 'larger' upon the shoot, but in the end ,he hated the result,as it really appeared no larger in depth or space... all best to my Y.T freinds, Dr.J
bowie's touching of mick's hair was because mick was out of it and in danger of distracting the show from bowie, bowie was trying to embarass mick back down
I read that there was also a hand piece that covered the crotch of Bowie's costume but, that had to be removed because of so-called censorship issues. Damn the conservative's!
I can see why Bowie changed his band drastically around this time. he wasn't just playing rock and roll shows anymore and this band had little dynamic.
Gabrels, Fripp, Frampton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Carlos Alomar... nobody came close to Ronno! (Yup, I didn't include Earl Slick cos he was a waste of space...)
Gemma they painted, in black mind you, the entire walls of the Marquee Club, as David thought it would add depth to the filming, but as one can see ,that idea did not pan out...that is all documented in Mick Rock's ;Ziggy S. ', book...great for all these ancdotal type facts.

That overbearing sax was completely unnecessary.
Apart from Ronson, this is literally the worst band I've ever seen Bowie play with. The sound is awful, not properly balanced.
Ansley Dunbar is a great drummer, but not for this band.
