I made this trip a decade ago. I’ve always been a Sierra Nevada guy but this is beautiful. Deserts are making a significant gain in personal popularity. 10/10

Great, great series of videos!!! As a Europe resident, it's like having a roadtrip without being there :)

Awesome, one of my favourite stretches of interstate. The Ivanpah towers are amazing to see from a huge distance - I last drove past them during a sandstorm blowing across all lanes and you could still make them out blazing away through the murk.

Agreed! The solar power plant is quite a sight to behold.

That 16 mile haul up the hill with the A/C off (I always heed the sign's warning) always wipes me out. By the time we get to Vegas, I have to buy COLD water by the gallon.
    😓
Excellent video. Loved every second of it!

So far, I have always kept my AC on and my car temperature gauge has never climb above the normal range. Although I have never traveled to Las Vegas in the middle of summer either. Just thinking about the heat already makes sweat lol.

One day, as I was driving a friend to Las Vegas through this highway, she said, "Wow, it looks a lot like Israel." I have never been to Israel. But from what I have seen in your videos, I think she was right :)

    • @onwheels2564

Yes, it is similar to southern Israel.

I have been in Israel. And no, it does not look like southern Israel. There's no trees, bushes or any industrial objects there. Just a few towns. Its sad and depressing. The roads are not paved . We took road 40 -Israel National Trail and it turned out it was a dirt road however the GPS showed it as a main road.

Some nice clear footage on this one. You can make the desert look like an inviting place to live :-D. I bet one day, there will be solar panel farms all over Nevada, seems like an ideal place to generate solar electricity. One thing I never understand is the warning about A/C on mountain passes. Is that really still an issue with most cars? I know on my Ford Focus, even driving through the Rockies along mountain passes I'll have my AC going full blast and the temp needle doesn't even budge the slightest. It's the same if I'm driving along the flat prairie or in a mountain pass. So I guess I just have never got the whole warning about A/C.

Trans Canada Phil - I personally have never needed to turn off my AC, but then, I have never traveled along these stretches in mid noon. Those warnings are most applicable in the summer, since noon temperature in these desert areas can easily reach above 40 Celsius. Coupled with that long marathon ascend, it greatly increases the risk of overheating. I believe this actually happened once to Rockersk08 on his way back to Las Vegas.
Although most cars should not have any problems tackling this climb, it is still a wise decision to put that warning sign. In cases where overheating does happen, drivers will immediately know what to do.

American Roads Yup, that happened in May 2013. My older truck was feeling it, a newer car probably won't. Not going to find out the hard way during the hot season.

    I love this drive.
I would often play the album Doggystyle by Snoop Doggy Dogg while driving this route.
Did you know that at the 15/40 interchange, there is a mileage sign showing the distances to Clyde V. Kane and Valley Wells Rest Areas, as well as Baker and Primm?

Excellent ride, something I admit I overlooked before. Would be nice to have more lanes and a universally higher speed limit though.

You would think with all those speeding drivers, CalTrans would at least get a hint.

American Roads I was wondering about that, thinking either you were going too slow, or the others were going 20-30 (or more) over the limit... kinda like "put your foot in the engine, close your eyes, and hope you don't hit anything..." It's one of the things I don't miss about living there...
Thanks for the vids... I'm waiting for the rest!

Ugly George - Lol. I think the 7x speed of the video makes things look so much worse. I was going at the speed limit (70 mph). The Autobahn drivers on the left lane were perhaps between 5-15 above the limit.

I traveled on California state route 14 to June lake In the Sierra Nevada mountain range but I don’t like the cross traffic intersections between California city Blvd Athel Avenue. I don’t think California state route 14 will be changed to an interstate since there’s currently an interstate 14 in Texas.
