- Montreux Volley Masters (Or BCV) was the first warm up tournament before World Grand Prix in 90s. It held around May to June before WGP. In 90s, most players mainly played in their country league locally or train in national team.
It didn't happen a situation that players finished the league in mid May then back to national team to play series of warm up games right after the season ended nowadays. So, even it was a warm up game, players performance wasn’t too bad in this tournament.
Post-Match Commentary :
In 1999, Canada, Cuba, Italy, Russia assigned in the same pool. First two rank teams will enter semi-final to play against other pool top 2 teams (Brazil, China, Japan and USA) . This was preliminary round match and both team lost to Cuba and fight for the last spot to enter semi-final.
Russia MVP #8 Artamonova (24yo, 1.91m) didn't play in this tournament. It made #5 Sokolova (22yo, 1.9m) played her position. She played as middle blocker in 1998 Montreux game then opposite hitter in WGP. Now, she played outside hitter. I wondre whether she ever played in Libero position. If so, she may be the only player in history played all positions (except 2nd pass). Italy used a lot of quick attacks in this match. Their receive was very good and the lineup players mostly were the 2002 World Championship gold medal lineup. #2 Rinieri + #12 Piccinini, #3 Togut + #14 Lo Bianco & #4 Leggeri were the players. In 1st set, Russia won but things get changed in 2nd set. #6 Godina (21yo, 1.94m) played not good in this tournament. She was substituted by new player #15 Gamova (19yo, 2.04m). Russia with only Sokolova up to standard while Italy were on fire in many positions. - กีฬา

Sokolova 2007年時，在2008WGP的歐洲區資格賽，對義大利時打過自由人。當時因為俄羅斯的自由人生病，她臨時頂替。
