MCCARTHY chronicles the rise and fall of Joseph McCarthy, the Wisconsin senator who came to power after a stunning victory in an election no one thought he could win. Once in office, he declared that there was a vast conspiracy threatening America - emanating not from a rival superpower, but from within. Free of restraint or oversight, he conducted a crusade against those he accused of being enemies of the state, a chilling campaign marked by groundless accusations, bullying intimidation, grandiose showmanship and cruel victimization. With lawyer Roy Cohn at his side, he belittled critics, spinning a web of lies and distortions while spreading fear and confusion. After years in the headlines, he was brought down by his own excesses and overreach. But his name lives on linked to the modern-day witch hunt we call “McCarthyism.”

McCarthy may be gone, but his destructive influence still lives on. Just look at how Republicans accuse any Democratic politcian in the office of being socialists, despite the fact that most of the Democrats today are of the establishment and are doing everything they can to ensure someone like Bernie Sanders doesn't become president.
During WW 2 noted actor John Garfield set up the "Hollywood Canteen" were our soldiers could get free meals great entertainment and dance with famous actresses.....a few years later our wonderful government black listed him....destroyed his career and he died shorty their after in his 40's....

One small correction, bobo. The Hollywood blacklist was a private agreement among the studios, not government policy.

It is primarily because not all believe the Marxist dream of Worldwide Revolution is EVIL. I got kicked out of a college professor's office a few years back for merely explaining why I opposed Marxists, and that's the issue-guys like Castro are still heroes on the Left, and that is the larger issue. If you tell a prof you think Marxism is a bad idea, context matters. If you go to their office hours while they ate working/working with other students and attempt to debate them then I can understand them telling you to leave if they have work to do. Or if you are being rude to them, they would tell you to leave.
As someone who worked in a mechanical engineering department, if I had someone come to me and politely try and argue that the Earth was flat or that the second law was fake, I would tell them I wasn't interested in a debate on that.
Contrary to popular belief, a professor is not always game for debate when they are working on grading shitty freshman papers.
Debate in class where class is literally there for it.
@@JS-po8oc I have gone at this topic in all formats, and this professor in general has been a fine mentor to me. I bring it up in such a context, and believe me, I have been pretty cheeky at times, but not there.

Actually, no. The Venona Project showed that the U.S. had been on top of USSR spying before WW II, knew who were the spies, and were keeping them out of critical material. The Venona Project also proved that Mrs. Rosenberg was innocent, but that didn't stop Cohn from framing her and killing her.
