Just before my mom passed away, my sisters and I offered to paint her nails. Mom was already non verbal and very near the end of her days on earth. One sister suggested hot pink, my other sister suggested Essie Ballet Slippers. The last word my mom ever spoke was "Ballet Slipper". Unfortunately, my Mother went to be with God a few hours later and we didn't have an opportunity to paint them. We brought the paint to the funeral home a few days later, determined to fufill her last request. When we went to the casket intending to paint them, nail polish bottle in hand, the funeral home had already painted them; in Ballet Slipper!!! We even had to ask to confirm and it was the exact same brand and the exact same color. Thank you Suzie for bringing me this surprise reminder of my mom. God works in mysterious ways.

Ombrés are one of my favourite things to do! Just a quick tip, if you use the top of the sponge instead of the side, you can cut the part with the polish out, and use the same one again as it will be nice and fresh!

I can hear Cristine in my head "dab, dab, dab, make your nails look fab" lol. I use the square bottom of the sponge, then I have the whole length of the sponge to hold onto, because I have big fat fingers 😂.

Non-latex makeup sponges have smaller bubbles/holes so they leave less sponge markings in the gradient. Just did a dark purple/magenta gradient and got soooo many compliments in the office! If you have short nails with no tips grab liquid latex for your cuticles way less cleanup.
Karen Lawson just google liquid latex for nails paint on cuticles and peel off just like blue tape for wall painting. There’s tons on Amazon. Simplynailogical uses it a lot she lives in Canada.

I'm sure the Queen is a lovely person, but she's really demanding about what others wear. Did you know that none of the women in the Royal Family are allowed to wear nail art, or polish darker than their skin? Only nude colors, and no nail art of any kind! No stones, no stamping, no hand painted art, nothing! I think they can get away with a French manicure or French fade look if they are willing to stick their necks out a little bit. I'm sure they are risking a dressing down if the Queen notices, however. I would *hate* the nail polish rules if I were a member of the Royal Family.

Question: Is it bad to use a hair dryer on low heat or cool to help with the drying process? Does it make the nail polish not last as long if you help the drying process along?

I have absolutely zero patience, and I love this technique. I’ve been trying to blot the entire nail and end up blotting all the white off and making a huge mess. I’m going to try this technique with gel polish and see if it goes any better for me. Thank you!!

Iamkaren ! This is 7 months later so not sure you’ll see this, but I had the same problem! I have extremely oily skin and nail beds and gel would last like 8 days tops on me. I got an acrylic overlay (no tips since I don’t like long nails on myself) and now just use regular polish. My manicures now last two weeks or until I’m ready to get a balance!

Essie’s Muchi, Muchi is one of my favourite nail varnishes. It’s such a pretty pastel pink colour, but overall I just love their range of pastel pinks and nudes.
I always struggle with polish coming off my nails within hours. I’ve used Essie and OPI I’ve had them done in salons and at home. No I know I have oily skin so could my nails be oily effecting the polish?
Essie is my favourite drugstore nail polish, I primarily use OPI on my clients but I definitely recommend Essie to my clients as a slightly cheaper polish option
I love the look of these. I’ve seen someone do gels with the white going down the centre. I’m wondering if it would work using the sponging technique down the middle rather than the tips.
Hi Suzie, I love your videos and have been watching for quite a while now. I've only been getting my nails done regularly for a few months now, and always go for acrylic; however, I seem to be having issues with polish. The Nail Tech I see always lays down a base coat, followed by two coats, and then a top coat; but it seems that by day two if I even make it that far, that my polish is wearing off of the end of my acrylic nails and rubs off on anything and everything. It seems to happen so easily, like today at work I was filing documents and barely scuffed the nail across the sheets of paper and left colored streaks on the paper from my nails. Could there be a reason for the polish doing this? Because for it to be doing it so quickly and so often right after an appointment It wouldn't be normal wear down would it? Your insight and expertise would be greatly appreciated. P.S. Totally off the topic of nails, but Critter is just so stinking cute. I wish I could give the big fluff ball a chin scratch and a belly rub.
Have you tried the brand american classic Gelous as a topper? I find nothing last more than couple hours on my nails. This has helped a lot with my manicures & pedicures I do on myself. If you have a Sally's or something similar around they should carry it.
I love the dab method for ombre, it's easy and quick! I stained my hybrid gel overlay with One-Coat Black by Holo Taco, from now on when I wear dark polish I'll be wearing a base coat lol. Suzie, why do some nails on the same hand grow faster than others? My ring fingernail grows much quicker than my other nails.
I wanted to ask you on your latest video , I’m new to doing acrylics and have a test finger to practice on . My question is , do I need to buff the “nail” part of the plastic finger ? Or will it still stick if I don’t buff it first ?

Agreed! Also more than one layer sponged on makes a smoother looking ombre.

You can get the sponge wet and squeeze it out really well. That helps keep the polish from absorbing too quickly into the sponge.

What advice would you give someone just starting nail technician school?

Essie is my favourite drugstore nail polish, I primarily use OPI on my clients but I definitely recommend Essie to my clients as a slightly cheaper polish option

I love the look of these. I’ve seen someone do gels with the white going down the centre. I’m wondering if it would work using the sponging technique down the middle rather than the tips.

Hi Suzie, I love your videos and have been watching for quite a while now. I've only been getting my nails done regularly for a few months now, and always go for acrylic; however, I seem to be having issues with polish. The Nail Tech I see always lays down a base coat, followed by two coats, and then a top coat; but it seems that by day two if I even make it that far, that my polish is wearing off of the end of my acrylic nails and rubs off on anything and everything. It seems to happen so easily, like today at work I was filing documents and barely scuffed the nail across the sheets of paper and left colored streaks on the paper from my nails.
Could there be a reason for the polish doing this? Because for it to be doing it so quickly and so often right after an appointment It wouldn't be normal wear down would it? Your insight and expertise would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. Totally off the topic of nails, but Critter is just so stinking cute. I wish I could give the big fluff ball a chin scratch and a belly rub.

Essie is my favorite brand, even though they dont last on my nails...nothing does actually. Essie makes some of the best pastel colors.
Have you tried the brand american classic Gelous as a topper? I find nothing last more than couple hours on my nails. This has helped a lot with my manicures & pedicures I do on myself. If you have a Sally's or something similar around they should carry it.
Do you suggest polygel for a salon as I noticed you didn't recommend it when the lady asked "acrylic or gel?" For starting out. Thanks
I love the dab method for ombre, it's easy and quick! I stained my hybrid gel overlay with One-Coat Black by Holo Taco, from now on when I wear dark polish I'll be wearing a base coat lol.
Suzie, why do some nails on the same hand grow faster than others? My ring fingernail grows much quicker than my other nails.
I wanted to ask you on your latest video , I’m new to doing acrylics and have a test finger to practice on . My question is , do I need to buff the “nail” part of the plastic finger ? Or will it still stick if I don’t buff it first ?

After you apply the colors on sponge to nail, do you wait for drying or are you putting the top coat while it’s still wet? I’m a little confused.
Suzie those sponges work amazing for dabbing off excess alcohol when you're doing gel.
Aww throws me back to the time when I use to wear ballet slippers all the time (I was afraid of befit colors on my nails)
