    1. Use a Better-Mag brand magwell insert and S&W MP15-22 22lr longbody 10- or 25- mags. Fixes feed angle and mag reliability, and fixes LRBHO. Drop-in part.
    2. Gas under CH is due to using a 223 barrel with gas tube pointed at "nothing". Some 223 barrels don't have this hole, or you can move gas block (or pull tube) to cap it.
    3. Watch out for the firing pin return spring (inside the CMMG bolt). This thing has a propensity to break in two. Still works -- but needs replacement.

Do the charging handle RTV mod to help mitigate the blow back. Smear chapstick/wax on the back of your upper, dab on some RTV to the CH, smush the two together and secure with rubber band, or your choice of lashing material. Let set. Enjoy.

There is one other use for .22 conversions or dedicated .22s that mimic other guns. New shooters. Starting with a quiet, low recoil, and cheap caliber gets them trigger time with the basics (4 basics of gun safety, how to use the sights, etc.). If the gun has a similar battery of arms to a larger gun you intend to let them try later they will have less to worry about when dealing with the louder and heavier recoiling caliber.

They eliminated the first round jam in both of my conversions.

  • @j3ffsqrtan

Some comments on your conversion kit - I had issues with my old Alpha kit doing the same thing. First round would nose up and fail. I reached out, they traded me the Alpha kit for a new Bravo kit. I haven't had that issue since. As long as I clean it every 200-300 rounds, it runs just fine. Note, I'm shooting suppressed most of the time. Unsuppressed may lengthen that cleaning interval, idk. My point - it might be worth reaching out to CMMG about your issue to see if they can help. As for manual of arms, there is a website selling some drop-in components that allow for the use of actual BHO. Haven't bought one yet, so no experience.

Oof my second gen orange follower screwed together mags work great for my cmmg conversion kit. I put it in a cheap aero upper i made specifically for it so i blocked the gas port on a 7.5 inch barrel. Maybe that's my I'm not getting extreme amount of gas blowback when running it with a silencerco switchback. It's been extremely reliable for a 22. I have not counted the rounds before a failure but it's many many mags. Luckily it's easy to clean as well. This build looks sweet with the carry handle and trijicon.

Firstly, a Bore Buddy 22lr Reliability Kit to help with malfunctions and gas blowback. It has an insert into your charging handle which will prevent casings from getting stuck into the upper and prevent gas blowback through the gas tube. It has better weights and extractors and other improvements with the firing pin.
Secondly, get a Catch22 bolt catch extension so you can actually use your bolt catch. It goes on the inside so it should work with non-standard setups like a PDQ lever, maritime bolt catch, or a phase 5 EBR.
(Edit) Third, tape some velcro to the back of the mag to get rid of the mag wobble issue.

The only reason I run .22lr in anything is to make it stupid quiet and semi-auto .22 CAN be quiet, but it will never be as quiet as a bolt action .22lr simply because of the action noise.
I absolutely adore my Ruger American with CCI quiet (I think they're only like 710fps) because all you can hear is a tiny click from the firing pin hitting the rim.
It's literally as quiet (suppressed) as dry firing except you still get a bullet flying out at a target or an unlucky rabbit or squirrel.

Why doesn’t a company come out with a .22 magnum conversion kit? Since they already make conversion bolts, which fixes the chamber size issue, there really isn’t a reason aside from the extra pressure needing more material to keep it from grenading. The extra case length of .22wmr might help with feeding issues, since it can still be fired out of a .22lr/.223/5.56 barrel. It would probably help with case ejection too since it’s got a bigger powder charge to run the bolt.
I can only see cost as the issue with cmmg making a .22WMR conversion kit. Makes you wonder…

Think it's the mags. I use all sorts of crap ammo through my CMMG kit on multiple AR's and it's almost flawless. Occasionally get a bad primer spin, sometimes get a brass over bolt deal. But if I give it a little spray lube when it starts being finicky it keeps on going. Accurate enough for me too.
I use the older GI looking mags, and Black Dog mags.

That looks pretty badass. I think the build could be improved in practicality by re-configuring the gun to shoot 5.7 x 28.
You would loose the movie quiet shooting, and it would be more expensive to shoot, but everything else would be improved. It would be more reliable (cause centerfire), more accurate (due to having the correct twist rate for the cartrige), it would be easier to suppress (compared to 5.56), flatter shooting (likely flatter than 5.56 and 22lr out of a 7.5" barrel), and if you do enough mental gymnastics it could still fulfil some weird niche role to justify its existence in your safe.
Maybe like a truck/backpack gun meant to assasinate varmints and also to shoot bad guys wearing soft body armor from the 80's. haha

    • @sluttybutt
      @sluttybutt ปีที่แล้ว +2

So spend a lot of money to make your AR less effective than if it was in 5.56, and more expensive than it was in 5.56, and retain the reliability issues because AR57s only work properly with the P90 mags?

.22 tcm would make more sense. Although at that point just shoot 5.56. Main reason to use a smaller .22 cartridge out of an ar other than .22lr is you can make a scaled down AR, which nobody does really. But imagine a dedicated AR lower and upper for a caliber like .22tc, where everything is scaled down so you have a smaller and lighter gun.

Its giving issues because of the buffer tube and buffer, where the buffer sits affects the kit, if you have a buffer that sits pretty back in the tube the bcg will move slightly backwards into the tube causing feeding issues. A buffer tube cap which pushes the bcg forward fixes alot of issues.

Some lower magwells are much tighter than others. My target 22 lower has a loose magwell, and I put shims on the back of my magazines by the trigger guard to help them feed better. If an adventurous person wanted to, they could make new 3D printed trigger guards that extended slightly into the mag well to do the same thing without having to put shims on every magazine.
