Just my opinion, but it was one of the most boring anime I’ve ever seen. I stopped at s1 episode 11, just couldn’t watch more of it.

To this day, I find it hilarious that someone as majestic as Sebastian is named after a dog, and someone as goofy as Finny (Finnian) has a well thought out pretty name. Well, Ciel did name them at different ages, and was less mature when he named Sebastian, but it's still funny to me.
@@serenefairy I had a random thought where, he was a little traumatised that Ciel named him after a dog and started loathing dogs? Therefore started liking cats, which are said to be the "opposite" of dogs (or he naturally likes cats?). If that makes any sense at all.

Honestly, the manga is a masterpiece and Yana Toboso is a genius, you can fight me on that; but the anime? Season 2 shouldnt've existed in the first place, while season 1...ew.
I think they added too many plot twists that ended up creating a bunch of plot holes for the ones who don't read the manga...

S1 is ok for me,S2 were quite crazy but its not canon,the manga is amazing tbh but i like both anime and manga
The creator of the manga said that she liked the characters of season 2.
Thankfully we got Book of Circus and other movies to bring the manga to life. This made season one aged pretty poorly imo. It was okay at best, but really derived from the manga in the middle of the first season.
It would be cool if some parts of the story get an anime adaptation like Book of Circus. The Public School arc is engaging and Emerald Witch arc (haven’t finished because busy with a lot of things) is hauntingly captivating.

When I first watched Black Butler season one, I thoroughly enjoyed it. But when I saw "the book of" series, season one didn't look as great as I intially thought. Like Lu, I'm thankful to it though, because it introduced me to a manga/story that I really love and enjoy.
I like that in the Public School arc, Ciel was able to socialize with other kids his age. It was just loads of fun. I felt sad that Ciel decided to leave the school but unfortunately, the story had to go on.
In many years to come I hope they make a reboot that actually follows the manga for season one.

@@WeebaLu yeah but a proper reboot would still be well recieved, look at FMA Brotherhood. Most people who've watched both FMA and Brotherhood agree that Brotherhood is a thousand times better than the 2006 anime.

@@mysticalkeyblade759 Technically Book of Circus is a reboot or considered it's own seperate thing that has nothing to do with seasons 1 & 2. It's because you can watch Book of Circus without having seen seasons 1 & 2 and still get most of the plot and Ciel's motivations without prior knowledge of any previous works.

The anime made a straight up mockery out of Grell. Yana portrays Grell as a troubled, but still badass woman whom you don't want to mess with. The anime made her a desperate-for-guys clown who can't do anything...

Black Butler is my favorite series and I find the manga is better than the anime. I really enjoyed the school arc and the Witch arc. Right now I am very excited to read the rest.

When I watched Black Butler for the first time, I had no idea what a transwoman was. So my thoughts were that, Grell was a mix of both genders (somehow), or she was genderless because she's a grim reaper, or she was a woman when she was alive, but when she became a grim reaper her appearances changed to a man? Eventually, I figured out that she was a transwoman, but when I said that to my friends, they were confused and said "Wait what. No way." They occasionaly refer her as a man, but I correct them like the hardcore fan I am :)

I am a Spanish speaking person and I have never had so much fun and identified with an English review! The first season for me had been fantastic. I was a very young girl and I had no idea what a good story was, but when I got to the manga oh my gosh.
I love how Yana is able to make the supernatural fit so well with reality, the Victorian era!

The anime became more convoluted than I remember
It has been very long since last time I watched this. I remember I enjoyed it a lot but not sure it holds up as well if I try and watch it now. I have to say I did not know that the director of this movie directed the first Inuyasha movie. A movie I did like But I think the second(I especially like the second movie being more faithfull to Rumiko's artsyle) and the third movie is better. Though the second movie do spoil the fact that both Inuyasha and Kagome kiss before the final episode which I do have mixed feelings for.
I Also want to say that I remember loving the pokemon anime series a lot but that one does not hold up as well.

Amazing video was basically what I thought of S1 of the anime perfectly! Personally, I'm just waiting for the manga to be done so we can get the whole thing reanimated, just Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Hellsing Ultimate.
Good thing I read the manga before watching this, it helps a lot. I prefer the manga *WAY* more, it has more detail and the storyline is amazing! The anime was very misleading and it created a lot of rumors. Also, if you realize they could have squeezed the Public School Arc if all that filler didn’t exist! #LizzieDefenseSquad
I read the manga before watching the anime. Honestly, I think the anime is good in its own way. I honestly only say that because I have friends who prefer the anime and I try to appreciate both things, no matter how different they are. In Season 2, the character Alois reminds me heavily of my closest friend just more extreme emotions. That's probably the only reason I like Alois, he is an extremely emotional genderbend of my friend. But, I definitely prefer the manga. Even my mom might read the manga someday.

Okay, Grell... I watched the anime before reading the manga, but I can say I HATED Grell. She was obnoxious, she was annoying, she lacked character. When I read the manga, everything just went woosh, and I loved her as a character. The anime did her dirty. Same with Lizzy.
My personal problem with Lizzy is that in Book of Atlantic, I LOVE her, but then I remember season one and I can't say "I love Lizzy" because I can't stand her from season one!!
Also I hate Pluto so much, I'm scared of dogs irl so I can't say I would've liked him if he was written better, but he's just so damn stupid!!! Even if I loved dogs, I'd hate him!!!
The only part of season 1 I actually liked was up to the Jack the Ripper arc and that's because that was the only part of the manga they adapted, everything after that with the whole fallen angel plot and the stitching people together part and pretty much the whole rest of the season is anime exclusive which I hate. Anime exclusive endings have always sucked and felt like a poorly done job. The studio behind Black Butler could have done what Hellsing Ultimate did and wait for more manga material to be adapted instead of giving us the fan service that is season 2.
I will give season 1 the mini arc with Lizzie getting kidnap by Drocell, I feel that really helped her character and her relationship with Ciel given how long it took us to get to the Cruise Arc

I think Sebastian left Ciel because said young master refused to let Sebastian kill Victoria when they had the chanse, and so he doubts Ciel's conviction in the cause and because of that he pretends to leave Ciel to test if he will get his horses in the race again or nah.

Yeah, I think both Season 1 and 2 were not so good. I still think Book of Circus and the rest were better and I'm still hooked with the manga. I wish they could have remade Season 1 where it would stick to the more accurate events of the first few issues instead of cramming in other stories that had nothing to do with the manga. Yet, I think they only character I had a softspot for in Season 1 was Pluto. Lol. I'm so sorry? However, I do agree that him turning into a naked man is just weird. In my opinion, if they were going to keep him in the story, they should have kept him as a firebreathing dog whether than a naked man who turns into a dog.

You know, up until I watched this video of you explaining what Black Butler is actually about, I still thought it was Yaoi.
That's kinda the impression I got from the cover artwork of the manga voloumes, whenever I saw them.
I get it, the creator used to do yaoi doujinshi so I guess it was difficult for her to slowly learn not to draw every cover like a weird yaoi lol

where can I even watch the first season? I used to be a fan of the manga like 10 years ago but never had tv or internet so I vaguely knew there was an anime but never watched it, Season 2 is on netflix rn but I can't seem to find 1 or 3 (which I think is the circus/murder mystery books adaption?)
Hulu has season 1, as well as Book of Circus, but the rest is unfortunately locked behind Funimation's subscription service. Funimation dubs are notoriously stingy about wider access and availability. There is also the DVD releases which are also notoriously pricey.

Well those first 2 I've never seen and I think are a little before my time but maybe I'd review something like Danny Phantom! :D I think Kim Possible has been beaten to death that it's really good tho lol As for Ben 10, I never cared for it all that much. Cool concept, but I wasn't super into it.

I love season 1,and i honestly think season is better for my opinion,because for me,if i love the episodes,i love it,i read manga of it,its pretty good,but for me season 1 is better because its funny and more of a comedian,im into that anime,funny then serious fighting,for me that interesting and grell make it more funnier haha

I wonder what will happen when you cover a show like to love ru. If you do decide to do so, I'd recommend you starting from motto to love ru cus the first season is absolute shit. The series is actually a very wholesome romcom when ur able to ignore the ecchi parts.

Tbh, I want to be an anituber that doesn't cling to ecchi or hentai like it's liquid gold the way others do and when there is one - I like to show that it can be more than boobies and stuff! So to having an ecchi be more than fan service has me definitely interested.

season two recently came out on netflix and it confused me so much, it wouldve been better if they never made it
let's not forget that arc about the prince brothers that lead to nowhere

I still don't understand the point of that entire filler xD
In my opinion, even if the manga is a masterpiece, the anime is still good, even if there are many additions and inconsistencies in it that require explanation. But there simply wasn't enough time for this explanation and, it seems, the budget, because with each new release of seasons or films, we see that the quality decreases. If in the first season I almost never saw terrible 3D animation and saw only good animation, in the Book of the Atlantic I saw 3D animation almost at every step to save money + characters (with the exception of Lizzie) seemed to me in this movie... I dunno, on the contrary more one-sided? Even Sebastian behaves more brazenly and audaciously towards Ciel compared to previous films and seasons, which I considered not a plus, but a minus. Because if this behavior was shown ONLY in flashbacks, we could observe the development of the character - a change in his attitude to Ciel from "spoiled brat" to respect. But all I saw was that his behavior was like that in flashbacks, and it remained like that by the time of the events of the Book of the Atlantic.
I was also very amused by the fact that the zombies didn't attack at all when Sebastian and Ciel were talking to the Undertaker, and the zombies just stood waiting, but anyway.
I also disagree with the fact that Sebastian had no reason to leave Ciel to test his determination about the contract in season 1, because when they were in the carriage, I remember a situation when Ciel SHOWED some doubts, and Sebastian looked at him with a 'special' look (similar to the one with which Claude watched as Alois begged him, bleeding). After that, it was already clear that Sebastian was up to something, and he had something on his mind. So Ciel's dream doesn't really have anything to do with it.
You can remember the fact that Sebastian was going to EAT Ciel in the manga at all, simply because he is in a stressful state and cannot recover. So this is just a toned down version of what Sebastian was going to do in the manga, although in the manga Ciel also didn't SAY that he wasn't going to take revenge, he was just in a constant panic. So I don't see any problem here.

It's because the manga wasn't (and still isn't) finished when they made 1 and 2 so they had to make up a bunch of new material. Now that the manga has been running for a while, a reboot titled "Book Of" has been made but for some reason they consider it part of the first 2 season? No idea why lol

I know that Elizabeth is a talented sword fighter and that's very cool but i still don't like her. Her inner monologue sounded self absorbed and "not like other girls" girl. Feeling insecure and caring too much about what people think of her, she isn't as confident as she thinks she is.

What the hell is this anime ? Does it make sense if l watch it ?
I grew up around the hype of this anime and Sword Art Online, but was never truly interested in either. SAO for pretty obvious reasons that you can find anywhere online. As for BB, I was mostly turned off of their ummmmm........fan base. If anything, Hellsing/Ultimate was more up my alley when I compared the two series. Season 1 was meh....Season 2 was 😒😒😒......and I just dropped it.

Me, a rabid fan of Season One of Black Butler: *_:')_*
I don't blame people who say Book of ~ is better, but imo, I prefer the og series much, much more. But, even being a fan of it like I am, there are some MAJOR things I have a problem with.
A quick list of what I like (Season One specifically):
-The animation is good! Well, the style. I prefer it over the Book of ~ series because the og has a much more dark, Gothic ambience to it which I think captures the essence more. Sometimes characters are drawn half assed which causes some good meme material (Looking at you, in-between frames) but can cause a laugh in an otherwise serious moment.
-The OST. While I forget the Book of ~ OST within moments of hearing it, every time I hear the og OST it's a memorable experience. I can remember specific scenes which that OST played, and it really makes the series that much better! In my eyes, anyways.
- Characters. Either I write an essay on this or keep it short, so overall: These have depth. They're human. Not just "I have a sad backstory and you're going to kill me for moral development :(". Sorry Book of ~, but the og actually pulls it off. The characters are far more than what their backstory makes them, and that's why I'm able to sympathize with them.
-Story/Moral outlook. God, same as characters. Can't get too carried away with this but it touches much more on just the general foolishness of human beings like in the manga. It touches on foolishness like hypereligiousity(?), greed, manipulation, moral alignment and much more. Not just "This is what happens when you live a sad life in get in touch with the wrong people :)"
-Oh yeah, not sure if I mentioned this but villains are actually well structured in terms of character. The way they're shown though, not really which takes lots of that away.
-Also the og anime has Ash/Angela and Book of ~ doesn't and if that isn't high treason idk what is
But there are lot of cons in the series as well.
-The only, and I mean ONLY thing I prefer the Book of ~ series to the og is the plot holes. I can't believe how rampant it is in the og. Maybe there was more planned? There are too many plot holes in both seasons of the original anime to look past. Especially with Drossel and Ash/Angela. Just, ugh.
-Like I said, the animation is pretty meh too.
-Not gonna say anything about Season Two because I'm glad we have it but I would have been equally as happy if it didn't exist.
I wish I could clarify some of the questions you have in this video (Especially about Ash/Angela) but this comment is pretty long already, so maybe in another video. :') Either way, it's a good video! I don't necessarily agree with it, but can totally see where you're coming from.

Also can we just talk about a hidden joke in the series? "And so I thought to myself..." The joke is that the character using it (Drossel and Ash/Angela) don't. They're all just being used by a higher entity (Ash/Angela and God) that thinks for them. It's a cruel little joke, and I hope I'm not the only who noticed it. I really hope that someone can make more Ash/Angela content in the future....

I would definitely love to try her hand at putting Angela/Ash/Ashela in the manga though! That would be really cool! Though I don't think the big G is responsible for any of the events in season 1. The big G seems to be...neutral in Black Butler? Not necessarily a villain even though he abandoned Ciel/the twins, the Manga has confirmed there is a heaven and hell (thanks to the reapers and Sebastian) but it seems none of the supernatural characters have talked about the big G yet.
I don't necessarily think God is evil in the series of Black Butler, I think it must be a neutral divine being thing or some speculate the Phantomhive family are so "evil" (in their deeds and ancestor actions) that it's possibly that the pearly gates of heaven banned them or something.
Either way, Ash never mentioned the big G knowing about any of this though and does word it like he's doing all of this as a sort of "surprise". Whether Ash really is a fallen angel or it's just all angels in Black Butler are just fucking nuts is something we won't know until like...probably near the end of Black Butler (which it doesn't look like it'll end anytime soon)

Shin Megami Tensei) like to portray God either as a neutral or evil, manipulative force. Either way, the Abrahamic God is usually portrayed as the embodiment of the law alignment, and it seems to be the case with Black Butler too...
I was a bit surprised that Ash/Angela only mentioned God ("The Father"/Origin) once in Episode 23, and not much else anywhere else. While they did briefly touch on their "Let's burn down the entire world owo" idea being the "True Doomsday" in Episode 20, the first season draws clear parallels to Sodom and Gomorrah in the Bible! I recommend looking into it if you ever want to find out more about our dear Angel of Massacre in the future. It's found around Genesis 19 of the Bible, I think. Anyways, I won't classify much, but will just say this: To say Ash/Angela - Hell, even Season One itself (Since that's a bit of a stretch, let's say the last half of the series) - Is not based off this part of the Bible is ludicrous. The parallels are so close it's scary.
Either way, I'm still sitting and dreaming for a Third part to the og Black Butler that probably will never exist ;-; _I'm about as pained as Ash/Angela were in their final moments,,,_

The problem with the first seasons are rewatchablity. If you watch them for 1st time you will probably think its the best thing ever.
Season 1:
This season is good. Not great. If they would get rid of that stupid godam dog and give ash better moative i would like this season more. Maybe make london on fire bc of the war with the world the queen planned.
For season 2, the spider demon arc episodes (1+5-12+the alois trancy ova) are amazing bc of claude,hanna, sebastian and alois freakin trancy. I still wait for him in the manga, his and manga ociel can have amazing exchanges. Grell this season was even more of a fan girl (not including episode 8). ciel memory whiping is stupid. And major plot hole is ciel blaming alois for killing his parents even tho he is 14, and he returned to the old pervert 2 years max.
I can see this arc makes its way to the manga but with lots and lots of changes (simillar things will be episodes 7,8,10, 11, ova5, 12 without demon ciel/soul fuesing thing)
