Fixed my 2007 HHR today. Checked the moonroof drains the other day, poured some water in each front corner and it immediately came out where it is supposed to. Removed cowl where the wipers are. Hint put gentle pressure on bottom side of wiper arm while tapping with mallet on stud/bolt). The rubber cover was loose at top and several other places. Removed it cleaned up all sealant, used it as pattern and cut one out of some aluminum flashing. After cleaning out all debris reinstalled it using some neoprene roof sealant, pressing sheet into healthy bead and pushing down a few times as it had a little time to cure. Went ahead and covered it with some metallic HVAC tape as a backup seal. Have not checked for leaks but pretty sure that was the issue. The separation that was most noticeable was at back top making a funnel sending water right in area where cabin filter is.
Later HHRs have a redesigned cowl opening that is much smaller and it's also just an open hole with no film over it. I think only the '06 and '07 cars have this problem but I could be wrong. Mine is an '09 and I have no leak issues at all (knock on wood).
Make sure you get the blower motor resistor with the lifetime warranty, just in case water still gets through and short circuits it again. At least you'll be able to exchange the resistor for a new one without having to buy it again.
I’m having same problem seems to be a reoccurring problem from all the videos I see what about making the drain bigger at the bottom of the collection area where the filter is? I haven’t opened mine up yet but from the videos it almost looks like GM expected it to leak from time to time and created a reservoir of some kind to slowly drain any water
My moms started leaking and it wasnt raining. She thought it was something to do with the ac. I think the few poor designs on these cars is because i think it may be one of the cars based on a foreign car i think maybe a suzuki
So I have a question I just bought the new part put it in a month or so ago. No leaks but then last night it poured and boom water on my passenger side again could it be that my back driveway is slanted baldy.?????
L2theW the piece I bought isn’t rubber is like a really good plastic head some type of tar seal on looked pretty strong but I think it just the angle that I park at cause it’s slanted and water just sits there? But tomorrow I’m gonna try and see if it’s my sunroof drains but haven’t had my sunroof opened in a ye cause the wind net is stuck so idk if the drains could be cloggeg since I haven’t had it opened in yrs
L2theW my seal was dry rotted but I put some house siding it in and it still leaked then I bought this hasn’t leaked since then until last night but i rained for a while. And even if I haven’t used my sunroof in a year it can still get clogged? So just use the air compressor on my sunroof drains lol?

Yes 2006 or early 2007 models have the old style cowl with the butyl patch. It was redesigned in late 2007 and does not need to be fixed.
Thanks for the help! I used some TREX Tape with some Lexan seal and it turned out great!

Thanks for this terrific video. Is there a “test” I can do to tell if this is where the water is coming from?
@@L2theWcarscoffeelife And how do I check the drains in the roof? Where are those drains located?
Thank you my brother
Thank you your video was very helpful to me.. Keep up the good works
Thank you very much for the comment glad the video helped.

thanks dude I've had this problem for years. I was about to disassemble the entire dashboard, CHEAPASS WAY OF DOING SOMETHING, SHAME ON GW
that happened on my wife's car and in the process the water ruined the blower control resistor.
What is the part called again. Trying to replace it on my sons car
wow!! that was easy thank you so much
Thank you! I will try this tomorrow.
:o)
Thank you

L2theW cause my wind shield piece with the wipers I have a real good bead of Silicone so I don’t know how it’s leaking
