Jon Pertwee will always be ‘my doctor’. His portrayal was very atmospheric for the time. Before all these special effects, it was Jon’s superb acting and supporting cast, Katy Manning, Elizabeth Sladen etc, plus the rather eerie music at times, that left a lasting impression on me. R.I.P. Jon & Liz 🥰👍
Yeah he was great in the role. A mixture of Sherlock Holmes, James Bond and Bruce Lee ! Because the show was broadcast around 5 o'clock in the evening, it was most children's first experience of horror - so it leaves a lasting impression.
John Pertwee had those star qualities ...a captivating presence in his most popular TV roles.amd a personal charisma .....the essence of likeability the best Dr who incidentally. .I believe that
It's the way he tells them! 🙂 He was such a gentleman. He was MY Doctor when I was growing up; as a 9 year old when he appeared on screen, I was captivated by his presence (though of course I didn't know that at the time!!)... I'd loved Hartnell and Troughton, but Pertwee just just WAS the Doctor for me back then.... 🙂 I've obviously since heard and seen his other work, but he's still my Doctor... much as I love McCoy, and later Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi, there's still only one Doctor for me! I loved Worzel Gummage too, but it never felt 'real' to me after his Doctor, so I don't have the same feelings towards it - great as it was - but, Jon is the Doctor.... Always the gentleman; much missed.....
I met Jon Pertwee in 1993. He was so nice and he signed me his autograph. He was the first actor from Doctor Who I ever met. Later I met Peter Davison, Paul McGann, Colin Baker, John Levine, Sylvester McCoy and Karen Gillan.
A fascinating interview of the charismatic and charming Jon Pertwee sorely missed but luckily left us all so many acting parts and radio just wonderful
How sad he didn't have a loving father. And yet it clearly didn't stop him from being a wonderful dad - his children speak of him so fondly. A lovely man and a uniquely charismatic star.
Very nice actor, very animated and thoroughly interesting. Naturally a very humourous man and full of great little stories. He and Tom Baker are the best Doctors.
God it really did go quick! They should bring back this sort of programme, just 1 interviewer, 1 interviewee. No braying audience, an interviewer who actually lets his guest speak and no gimmicks.
That's actors for you, it's not uncommon for them to lie, after all they live in a world where they always pretend to be somebody else.. I've heard many older actors tell the same stories about school or meetings with then big name directors and put themselves in frame as though it actually happened to them for real.. All they're doing is remembering something they've heard and will change a little, possibly exact place or person and fit it into a story involving themselves. More difficult today as we can check things and watched multiple old interviews one after the other and see it's just stories passed off as facts
No back then most of us went to work, daytime television was meant for Kids or the Retired,, today we have too much leisure time,, or maybe just find our selves "unable to find suitable work"...(Lazy bastards!)

@@hereisthenews7793 Good idea,, if we could all become MP.s there would be no unemployment,,perhaps things differ throughout the country? but down here the Unemployed blame the Immigrants for the current (supposed) jobs shortage.
@@neildelaney5199 The problem you see is neither the unemployed nor immigrants. If you googled ‘safe and mild mannered tv presenter’ I wouldn’t be surprised if the first image wasn’t a picture of Derek Batey. Pertwee was my favourite Doctor Who by a MILE. Both are much missed talents. RIP. I loved the theme music. Did every audience member have to be older than methuselah to gain entry? Now wonder the show was only an (itv) half hour, it gave the audience at least a fighting change of reaching the end of the show alive. 😂😂

And mine. Loved the relationship between The Doctor and the Brigadier!
RIP Jon Pertwee (July 7, 1919 - May 20, 1996), aged 76
You will be remembered as a legend.
A proper, old school, welcome from Derek to both the studio audience and those watching at home. You never see that these days.
I liked Derek Batey. He had such a kind and genial manner.
Yes and why not too.
People like Mr Pertwee were of a different breed. Such class. Can't thank whoever posted this.
Jon's tie reminds me of Tom Bakers' 4th doctor scarf.
My sentiments also
It's a Freudian slip on Jon's part....
I’m Jealous I Want It
I've heard these stories so many times, yet every time feels like the first. I just ADORE this wonderful man. ❤❤

@@stevesstuff1450 He's my Doctor now, and he passed away before I was born! ❤❤❤
Jon was such fun and a great entertainer. Lovely interview from a passed era of cosy daytime British TV.
Back when TV wasn't age and image obsessed. When you prove yourself you'll be remembered.
A gentleman and a brilliant and unique talent.

@Richy.D Films Thanks!
My favourite Dr by a mile 😎😎
Thanks for uploading this. Happy days.

They don't make them like this anymore what a legend jon pertwee was sadly missed but never forgotten x
This is excellent. many thanks.
Multi talented absolute legend!
Class interview. Jon was very interesting guy.
Love the audience is ace... like a scene from cocoon.
How sad he didn't have a loving father. And yet it clearly didn't stop him from being a wonderful dad - his children speak of him so fondly. A lovely man and a uniquely charismatic star.
His son is garbage.
Great to see not only Jon, but Derek Batey too. Did love Mr & Mrs!
Derek Bentley , mother's favorite day time show host and game show presenter , haven't seen this handsome fellow in years , what a lovely surprise :-)
His surname was Batey, not Bentley. Also the host of the cringingly dated quiz show Mr & Mrs.
Very nice actor, very animated and thoroughly interesting. Naturally a very humourous man and full of great little stories. He and Tom Baker are the best Doctors.
Charming.
I wonder if this was filmed in the Border TV studios in Carlisle. If I'd known, I would have sat and waited for him for ages.
I know very little about British actors and celebrities, but I know him as the 3rd doctor, and he was my favorite Doctor.
He was so great in The Time Warrior
First episode with Sarah Jane Smith
Derek Batey is Mr Border Tv
Yes he was too and why not.

Any more of these look who's talking? I was in the audience for Tessie O Shea in the 70s.
Great stuff! 👌
there was a doctor who story about the hugonets called the massacre
Cool.
In between black and white TV and colour TV they experimented with brown and beige and here it is.
If someone threw a solitary chip or a slice of wholemeal bread on to the set, would we even notice?
Is it sad that I kept mishearing them say "Dalek" instead of "dialect?"
Strange he said he was at Smarts circus but in other interviews he said Lord Sangers.

270 programmes but he did only 128 episodes. Is he thinking of related programmes or just miscounting?

Glad I'll never get old mummy..

Then they went to work for Mrs Merton!
Fuck me, look at the audience... Anyone there who can enter a bath tub unassisted?
Lol
