    I feel like I work on similar concepts with my dogs and do very similar activities looking for similar outcomes but I keep watching Stonnie bc of how happy the dogs are and how confident they are doing their activities together, the eye contact is great. My dogs deserve to be happy and confident all the time too. Letting go of a few of my old habits and adapting better ones for happier dogs, I fuss at them too much I realized and am more "military" in the way I command them sometimes. I adopted a 6 month old rescue and was searching for the right training for his type bc what my terrier is motivated by is different and hes not what I am used to. Thank you Stonnie for your positive ways, it is benefiting some dogs here in Alaska.

    If you don't want to buy the large cones (Stonnie did say they were a bit expensive), you can go to Walmart or wherever and pick up some plungers. Only a couple bucks apiece and very useful. I use some as weave poles when teaching agility; also as objects to send my dog around on cue.

    Love your work Stonnie - it takes a special kind of person to have the type of patience and positive attitude that you show in your videos. I have a DIY project pup right now. 12 week old red lab and I'll be working with her to get her ready to help our search and rescue unit. Your videos have been super helpful! I'm working on my own skills (mostly timing) as well, but we'll get there.

    • @StonnieDennis
      @StonnieDennis  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You don't know any vets that know more about dog behavior than I do; not one...Dogs have been chasing their tails for a long time. This is a happy little dog that has a great life. She just happens to like chasing her tail sometimes. It's a breed specific tendency, that most often ends up being a non factor in the dog's quality of life.

    • @Ufons333
      @Ufons333 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do believe you know your dogs the best, absolutely. But maybe it will help other people and their dog, if they have problems with OCD. To think and question a bit extra never hurts and might even help people.

    • @StonnieDennis
      @StonnieDennis  6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Exercise and structured activity is by far the best starting point for treating all behavioral disorders. Unfortunately there is a whole industry based on treating behavioral issues with "medication", I am wholeheartedly against that trend. In my opinion every behavior modification protocol should begin with increasing physically and mentally stimulating activities.

    • @StonnieDennis
      @StonnieDennis  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’m not an expert on Bull Terrier bloodlines by any means. But all in all they are cute little dogs, they just need early training with a lot of exercises and emphasis on developing impulse control. They have a tendency to get a little bit hyper focused on things, kind of like you see this one chasing her tail. That can be a problem if you don’t get on top of it early.

And if you're energetic you can get involved with your Bully by Hucklebutting with him/her. Theres nothing wrong with getting as silly as your Bully for a bit... is there? Eww Errr....I was just gunna mention about lil Maggie chasing her tail, and how sweet she is/how 'Bullie' it is/how comical this breed is.......and then I read all the stuff about tail chasing!! our 2yr old bullie boy doesn't/has never chased his tail. Our first bullie girl beauty did, sometimes. But I ain't getting into this argument! Shame our boy was so disinterested in any training, harder still as he doesn't respond to high quality treats: he was just far too interested in playing. As a consequence he's fantastically sociable and popular; runs and plays off lead with his pals daily, sorta listens* (in the EBT-sense), has sorta good recall*, and his sweet nature is often commented on. lucky us, we have an EBT who loves us as much as we do him! x
