I have watched so many people cutting off the flower spikes. I knew there was a reason not to. I put Keiki past on and have growth in several places on it. When I get keikies I will be coming back to this video.
There are people that love to cut off the flower spikes and claim it is the best thing to do. I don't like cutting them off totally in order to let them either develop keikis or new flower spikes. Let me know if you had success developing keikis.
Many people criticize me for leaving my spikes when I post on social media. They claim keikis and secondary bloom or spike will drain the plant and leaves will be in a poor state, etc.
Thank you very much for such a detailed video! I have two giant keikis on my orchid. They are very big and have many roots and leaves. I want to separate them from the mother plant, but they are blooming with many many flowers. Shall I wait until they stop blooming or shall I try separating them now? Many thanks!
I just removed 5 keikis from one Orchid! They had been growing on the plant for 2 years! I dont have a plant house with high humidity, but I have 70% humidity in my apartment.. at the moment I have put the newly potted keikis in a south facing window, but Im wondering if I should move them to more indirect lighting. Its september and Im in Norway, so we dont have as much sunlight during the day at fall time, plus it rains a lot - so Im not afraid that they will get any sun damage from direct sunlight...but what would you do?
Thank you for a very helpful video. I've been unwell for 2 years, so my Keiki is quite big. Is this the right time of the year to remove it ? I'm in the UK. Thank you
@@karenmcdoanld8805 The keiki must have at least three roots of at least 1 inch long each. So if it has only 1 rootnof half an inch just wait. With orchids you need to be patient.
Unfortunately not. Most orchid growers go on luck and pray that their orchid will develop a keiki. In the past, I have tried several ways in which people in youtube videos claimed they know the way you can push the flower spike to develop keikis, but I have never had any succes. A few weeks ago, I have seen a new video with a new way and I will certainly try this. I will film it and upload it on the channel. Of course it will take time.

While you live in Norway I don't think it is a problem placing them in a south facing window. If possible try to keep them near their original spot.
you cat this part but you did not show us what you do with the part that left are you going to put cinamon or 3% advice plaese
No cinamon, no waterperoxide. Just leave it.

I am happy the video is helpful. If you live in the UK I think you'd better wait till April.
@@botanicdesigns oh thank you. I will do.

I have a Keiki growing off of my flowering stem but there is no air roots developing yet so should I wait to clip the keiki until it grows air roots ?
You must wait till it has at least 3 roots. This can take a few months. Orchids is all about patience.
Is it possible to plant keiki without moss and if so how
@@daliay2503 you can also plant it in bark.
I’m on southeast US coast when is best time to pot my keiki?
During spring would be a wonderful time
There’s no chance of the roots rotting ?
No. Of course you shouldn't place too much water
I have a Keiki Ill be removing in a few months , once I do what would you suggest as far as watering ?
@@botanicdesigns
As far as watering do as with an adult plant, once a week.
@@botanicdesigns thanks
I just noticed a bloom stalk on my favorite Orchid . This is odd because she already has 2 stalks , have you ever seen this ?
Is keiki always developed after flowering? I am novice, Thanks
