May I travel someday here? I'm in Western Canada. May the most holy Theotokos save us. Glory to the Father to the Son and to the Holy Spirit unto ages of ages Amen. Jesus Christ have mercy on our souls, full of inequities and the sins of the passions, lord have mercy, lord have mercy, lord have mercy on us. Amen
For the church that burned down I hope that the community could find a hope to have an agape style services. As in the earliest days of the church early services were in peoples homes before churches was there. The Perseverance of alaskan Orthodox Christians is amazing.
Vladika, your Excelentia, we are family of 9, Orthodox, near our 2 monasteries, we think about moving in Alaska actually with every new day we are more and in love for Alaska. The fact that the OCA functionally abandoned its Alaskan roots and the native population is tragic. “The Church of Sitka and Alaska” would’ve been a most worthy Autocephalous successor to the Metropolia. Instead, an attempted stake at the entire continent of North America was made (largest territory globally?) with a headquarters 3,000+ miles away (DC) from the sanctified lands where the first saints of America walked. Thankfully Bp. Alexis seems to be concerned about healing this most unfortunate incompetence and neglect. Many years Vladika.
The moving of the headquarters and administrative center of the diosce, was made by St. Tikhon. The idea was that California was more economically sound. Alaska alone couldn't produce the funds to maintain itself. A pragmatic decision was made to move the dioscean capital to accommodate the fact that the diosce of Alaska was turned into the Archdiosce of North America.
Autocephalous Churches are typically headquartered in capital cities (Moscow, Belgrade, Sofia, Athens, Bucharest) so naturally DC makes sense. At the defense of the Metropolia, the period from the Bolshevik Revolution to WWII was very complicated and difficult. Competing Orthodox factions were suing each other for property, the Church was dividing itself into the jurisdictions we have today, funding from the Russian Empire stopped and the people didn't exactly know how to tithe. On top of that, there was hostility towards Orthodoxy because of the Russian character and the Red Scares. I had to say it, but there was a lot on the plate of every bishop and very few available bishops at the time.
This is the saddest thing to hear that children's mouths were duck tapped to stop Orthodoxy. May God help have mercy on us. I would like to help a bit just to get the blessing from those Orthodox Christians who suffered to worship God.
How horrifying. I was just baptized 28 years old family of 5 in British Columbia not to far from Alaska, have an icon of saint Hermon in my house and so blessed by his life. This to me is absolutely horrifying. I have helped convert a lot of my friends. Our parish is growing. And something I will say is that I will donate. But listen, if anyone thinks that by watering down the faith it will help people come you have lost there mind. Everyone converting in our parish is calling out bs in culture of the world or the watered down faith of Protestants and want truth and tradition. One thing I wish I would’ve heard is taking some responsibility, I think Orthodox christianity has completely forgotten how to evangelize. I don’t see it, I only learned about orthodox through online. A big reason orthodoxy has failed is that nobody even knows it exists which comes from lack of zeal to evangelize and ethnic clichés which say “you aren’t welcome” to locals. Unlike! St Hermon and Innocent who respected local languages as you said. I have been nothing but chastised for my evangelism efforts, as “not qualified” or “we don’t do that” yet the parish has gained probably a dozen people since I joined through my outreach. So undoubtedly the problem is not just financial. Orthodox is perfect and has changed my life, my family has been mystically unified to Christ and we have such peace now. Glory to Jesus Christ. Donate! This is our heritage people!
Your comment is good and genuine. I have just started going to St Herman’s in Langley BC. Coming from Protestant background. Heard about orthodoxy 30 years ago but had no idea what it was so I just stayed Protestant not knowing any better. This is all a big learning experience for me as I am now 53. Lord have mercy..❤️🩹 The connection of Orthodoxy to Alaska is fascinating. I pray that this is the time for orthodoxy to be revitalized…🙏🏽❤️🔥
Beautiful sermon, may God bless the Orthodox people of Alaska. As a Catholic the story of the Russian mission in Alaska reminds me of the Spanish mission in Mexico and South America
What if the Laity of your Parishes were to get into Gold Prospecting? Perhaps a certain portion of the Money that they earn could go towards helping re-establish and strengthen the Orthodox Christian Faith in Alaska.
Yup. I grew up Methodist my entire life. No longer. I've been going to a ROCOR in Texas and it's been eye opening. My priest wants me to become a catechumen. I think I'm ready.

Lord, have mercy! Bless the Orthodox people of Alaska.
God bless the Orthodox Mission in Alaska. Lord have mercy upon each and every person there.
May God bless the donations to this struggling diocese like the loaves in the wildreness, and gladden the hearts of all who give!

I visited Sitka and Juneau last summer to meet Orthodox folk for research. I enjoyed it so much, I miss attending liturgy at those lovely churches.

God Bless The Orthodox Church In Alaska & Throughout North America.

Greetings to all Orthodox brothers and sisters, specially to Russians and Ukrainians suffering this disastrous war!

The history portion of the presentation should be turned into a separate "short" and as a stand alone video would be instructive. - Lord have mercy.
I wish my parish in minnesota could realize just how Good they have it.
Very amazing 👏 👌 🙌. May God be with you all in Alaska, and may this church grow

@@SATMathReview1234 The roman catholic mission was quite the opposite....
Thank you Bishop, how can I send you money? It was living in Sitka working as a RN in the IHS that caused me to become Orthodox. How can I help.
I wonder if there are people who are orthodox who'd be willing to give the bishop and clergy free transport or at a lower cost.

When was Vladyka here?
December!
So many of my native friends in the central usa Do not want to hear a word about orthodoxy as they are so scarred by the evils of protestantism.
This is why I am no longer a Protestant.
