    Yeah Steve I think seeing where you're going is the hardest part about doing a burnout. I think the guys that are good at it have plan a route where they can pull through there smoke to see where they're going and then do it again and then pull out of there smoke and see where they're going that's the key. Obviously harder to do than it sounds

    Glad to see you're doing good after both of those accidents! Hope your not throwing in the towel on the burnout rivals, sounds like another fun, challenging skill to learn. >:) Reason being: if anyone can figure out how to keep an engine cool, and together while staying pegged in it's powerband for 3 to 5 minutes straight,......well, who does stuff like that?

    • @zbeasty
      @zbeasty 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      They've been doing it in Australia for 30+ years. Methanol to keep it cool. Low revs to avoid breaking parts from banging the limiter constantly. Tall gearing because wheel speed is what makes smoke. Ski boat engines are probably the closest to the type of build you want. Designed to sit in a rev range for a long period of time.

    For somebody new to burnouts ( from an Australian ) you showed a lot of promise. There were moments where you were using the whole pad and moving the smoke around like a proper skid lol. Keep it up. Most of the burnout cars limit the amount the butterflies can open to allow for not only more control but also a longer burnout.

    the onboard shots say it all. there was like, 0.3 of a second there where you could see through the smoke. i guess thats the skill in it. knowing where you are and positioning yourself so you get those short glimpses of your surroundings. gotta be suuuuuuper aware of where you are, what the car is doing and your surroundings. especially when youre driving a car that can make that much smoke so quickly and easily.

    One thing that could be done to help with smoke...depending on wind, have about 15 big barn fans to create a 20 mph wind across pad to clear the smoke. Just anchor/fasten them on top of wall, create a breeze. Very simple, and not terribly expensive. Or just have a company come in for that evening with big air movers. Much safer for driver and can possibly save some cars from major damage.

    Australians set the bar for this crazy burnout stuff. I think you’ve come the closest to what they do. Basically a stupid ass looking really small car with a friking engine that looks like it should be in a top fuel dragster. You nailed it.

Once you've done it a few times and got use to things you start understanding roughly where the car is, but it's normally not something you can jump into and get right off the bat.

    That is amazing how honest you can be about something that is very new to whatever and you can tell that it had you mentally and emotionally by the way that you were left speechless by the whole situation.... For a person who is so knowledgeable on a motor and so confident to put yourself in such a situation then it makes you realize how humble you have to be on some things and how humbling a particular sport or entertainment could make you...
    I'm impressed by everybody who stood behind you and I'm even more impressed that you're willing to stand up which I never had a doubt for.... By the way it was a really cool setup between car and the combination of engine parts but the key to remember is watch where the wind is blowing and know where you want to place your vehicle at so that way you're always in the wind and that way you will always have a clear sight but if you think that's bad picture drifting at 100 and something miles an hour with smoking your face that's the dicey part

    Great job man! Those burnouts are not easy, just look at how good of a driver cleetus is and how many cars he has totalled in the burnouts

    • @Greg1096
      @Greg1096 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dunno about that, cleetus was kinda a joke when he went to summer nats, he has improved a ton since then but he still rarely does a skid without touching the wall which is a major no no in Aussie contests, he is probably about even skill wise with a 17yr d Australian kids 😂

      @@sergev7828 ha e you seen neighbor and toast? Both are missing large parts because he can't keep them off the wall, I love cleetus and he is an awesome driver, but dude is not on par with the Aussies, he is super entertaining but ya can't be good at everything.

    • @Greg1096
      @Greg1096 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@rileymannion5301 yeah he has talent for driving, but he also gets more opportunity to practice by having endless budget to fix things when accidents do happen, I love the guy and he is so fun to watch, but it does irritate me how people fangirl and think he is the greatest driver to ever live

    "Let me tell you something, A Knife, a Fork, a Vodka and a Cork. That's the way we spell New York" For a moment there, Steve I thought you were channeling Dillinger's song:, Cocaine In Ma brain(1977.) You were still "wired" when you got back to Michigan following the burn out contest and the race. Keep up the great work with your channel. Always look forward to your instructional videos. You never stop impressing me, .in your very humble way and personality.

    Steve, take a look at Aussie burnouts and you see the guys use most of the pad for good reasons.
    1st. dodge the smoke. Treat the skid pad like a racetrack and find clean air.
    2nd. Do your homework. Find some elevated landmarks and use them to know your position. Anything will work a tree, a sign, colored lights and walk the pad and note them for later.
    3rd. Give them a show. Mount your exhaust so it blows your smoke away from the driver, it also has the effect of making your smoke go further and look bigger! Just keep the pipes clear from rubber...BIG smoke = good. BIG fire= bad!
    4th. Have fun!

    Oh yeah, that was accident waiting to happen. Very short car and all that power, all the smoke comes in the car. Awesome looking Starlet, I’m glad you’re going to fix it.
    One thing I don’t like about those burnout comps, you see absolutely nothing. Just a pile of smoke and then crashed car at the end. Drifting is more entertaining as you see the cars doing the burnouts.

    Wow, now that was different! wish i was there. You would have been safer in your comfort zone drag racing. I was at Indy for the NHRA nationals. great show. Maybe next year you and some other SMX owners can show drag and drive cars at the 70th annual nationals.
