- Well, here it is. Two years of hitting the road and filming bells have led to this compilation. Just two years earlier, my old compilation only featured 10 models of bells. Now, it features 28. Enjoy this new compilation of all the bells I have filmed!
There is a charm that comes with the sound of a mechanical bell that just can’t be recreated by an electronic bell.
That's true, but 2:15 proves otherwise.
Nothing beats those old mechanical bells!
Agreed
2:42 is my favorite with those light when I look it’s blinking a lot of times
Cool.
Hi spandan
@@TheCentralTexasRailfan we have that type of bell at 0;56 here in greece and we also have some us teardrop bells
Those slights are called RSI LEDs. It’s rare to see with a RSI E Bell
The lights are common though
1:32 My favorite type of bell and crossing signal!

Absolutely amazing ! I know of most of these bells but found out about some new ones today which is great !
Glad you enjoyed this video!
I’m a singer and I’ve noticed that many of these are very close in pitch. Is there a standard pitch (note) that crossing bells are supposed to be? I would imagine a study has been done to determine the note most likely to be heard by the widest cross-section of the population? These seem to range from A4 (440 Hz) to C#5 (554.37 Hz).
The tone of a General Signals Type 2 Bell would be considered the universal pitch of a railroad crossing bell, and most other bells use a tone similar to it.
They're designed now to be easily heard from inside a Car, which involves a specific frequency so they don't have to be dangerously loud.
@@StormyBoiGood, because _some_ people don’t pay attention to what’s ahead of them.

i like how the electronic bells try to preserve the general essence and spirit of the mechanical ones
3:13 that bell is used Brazilian railroad crossing
2:42 Popular railroad crossing bell sound
Awesome! This is the perfect crossing bell compilation. My favorite has to be 1:07 for mechanical bells and 2:53 for e-bells. Also, an interesting mention, I actually own a WCH 2nd gen mechanical bell. I'll hopefully make a video about it sometime in the future when I have time to think about how to show it off.
Good choices! I see you like Western Cullen Hayes! Cool that you have a mechanical bell! I have the same one you do, so if you have any questions on getting it to run let me know.
2:48 My favorite bell.
Cool. 🙂
I miss the mechanical ones. I understand the appeal of newer tech but I just loved the sound
Same here I’m with you on that. I like how the ring fades out after it stops were a electronic one just stop
I love that WCH 2nd Gen bell, definitely my fav!
Same here! Sadly the ones in that clip were both replaced.
Really interesting video. You should do more of this.
Thank you! I might be doing more of this type of video in the future!
I've never seen those last two e-bells before. I do remember stumbling upon a video of an industrial crossing in the US that had an e-bell that sounded like an ambulance siren, but now I can't find it anymore.
3:12 It Looks Like A Western Cullen Hays Bell
Awesome! I'm surprised that you found a RSI E bell!
Thank you! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it on Google Street View. I found it when I was marking crossings on the line to film, and knew I had to film it!
Aaron Sundara umm hi

I like right by a WC Hayes type 4, it’s on a crossing belonging to a regional railroad, Wheeling and Lake Erie
1:32 my favorite bell

3:00 best bell for me
Not sure how old you are, but that’s the bell most of us late 90s early 00s kids grew up hearing. That and the 2nd generation WCH M Bell.
My top favorite is the WCH Type 3 E-Bell. Really love the sounds of them.
1:55 a classic and My favorite

Holy moly! Never knew there were so many bells! Sounds like GS type 2 bells are more common in the bigger city like Houston
Honestly, someone better do a comparison video of these 3 bells (gs type 2 vs safetran type 2 vs rsi e bell)
Western Cullen Hayes type 3 is one of my favorites
2:19 why that signal doesn't have a crossbuck?
There is a cantilever signal behind it with a crossbuck.
This is just amazing
Thank you!
Awesome video! Love the intro! Nice RSI e-bell!
Thank you PlyingKibbles!
Great video! Where the heck is that first crossing?
Thank you! It is at the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, ME!

@@TheCentralTexasRailfanagreed teardrop bells are amazing just wish they still made them
Where did you find a low-pitched Safetran Type 3 electronic bell, RSI electronic bell and a Western Cullen Hayes type 1 electronic bell?
The low pitch Safetran Type 3 is in Hammond, LA at Charles St, the RSI E-Bells are at Liberty St in Mercedes, TX, and the Type 1 is in Bremond, TX.
Great video!
At 2:33 Mines keeps saying something went wrong with the video
1:16 Can You Upload That Video?
All of these will be uploaded eventually.
@Enda Basquez what is that
@Enda Basquez thats stupid
I like to picture a hampster smacking a little mallet on the inside of the bell
I hope no one gets hit if there’s no gate
2:57 the western cullen hayes(type 2) sound is similar with new zealand railroad crossing sound
0:47 sounds like the beginning of April Wines oowatanite
2:14 . Wish there where some crossings with safetran bells on them.
3:14: does those housings have those covers
The housings are like that so that the train doesn't hit them as there is not much clearance.
Oh
Loved it. Very informative.
My favorite mechanical bell is the WCH type 2 and my favorite E-bell is the safetran/siemens high tone
0:35 Jeez those are old railroad crossings.
Indeed. 1950s era.
The Western Cullen Hayes bells really sound nice

You forgot the GRS E Bell and US&S E Bell. There is also a WCH type 2 gen 2 which sounds different enough to be different.
Nice! What are the locations for the bells at 0:39, 1:14, 1:21, 1:48, 1:55, and especially 2:43?

What the hell is the last bell
It is a speaker that is normally used to assist visually impaired at crosswalks; however, sounds can be uploaded to them as well. The light rail simply decided to save money and used them instead of a purpose-built bell.
The safetran type 1 and the gs type 1 are my favorites
Good video! in Chile we have Wig Wag's with US&S Teardrop Bell.
