- "100 Years of the Appalachian Trail" by Jim Foster: The concept of a hiking trail from Georgia to Maine began in 1921 with a famous article by A.T. visionary Benton MacKaye. Jim Foster will present a talk with pictures on the first century of the Appalachian Trail. He'll include the founders, those who built the original Trail and sustained it over the years, along with several important hikers. Jim is a volunteer and life member of KTA, a long time A.T. volunteer and a "2000 Miler" who hiked the entire Trail in 2007.
About Keystone Trails Association (www.kta-hike.org)
KTA offers a robust trail care program with volunteer opportunities available on PA trails, serves as the statewide voice of the hiking trail community and trail advocate in PA’s capital, and offers a wealth of hiking opportunities throughout the year that both long-time hikers and the next generation of hikers can enjoy together.
The Appalachian Trail Museum serves the Appalachian Trail community by telling the stories of the founding, construction, preservation, maintenance, protection, and enjoyment of the Trail since its creation. The Museum will collect, preserve, and interpret materials relevant to these subjects in an effort to portray not only the history of the Trail, but also the essence of the physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual human experience of the Appalachian environment and the culture of hiking.
