May I brag? I lived in San Francisco back then, lived mostly in the Haight but liked to hang out in North Beach. There was a friendly, comfortable Irish pub on upper Grant St., Mooney's Irish Pub. For a good number of months, they booked a musician - the same musician - for several nights each week. That musician was Steve Young. We (my close friends & I) were not unaware of how special he was. We were nearly always there, in the audience. This was around the same time when his LP, "Rock Salt & Nails" came out. For me still, this was the peak of the music of San Francisco of the 60s. Later I saw & heard Steve in many other locations all over the country & I got to know him & we became friends. I loved the guy & I miss him greatly. Now I'm proud to know his son, Jubal Lee Young, also a talented musician & a lovely human being!
I’m very confused as to why this doesn’t have 100 million views??? Ahh well I guess I’ll rack up a couple million on it myself. Pure fkn gold. I’m 30 years old and I couldn’t wish more that I could have been born in the 50s and 60s
Well, I'm 70 and bought this LP in '69. Always a favorite of mine. Incredible songs---put together very well. The great James Burton plays dobro very well on many of the songs.
Whenever I was planning a long road trip, I would record several tapes from the local KPIG radio station (while not listening) which I could play while driving, for as some of you might know, it's a vast desert out there when it comes to good music. I discovered this song on one of the prerecorded tapes and just about wore that tape out before returning home.
Just looking around and found this posting...I still have the album out in the shed...bought more than 50 years ago in Australia... so great to hear it again...Thanks!
From one of the best albums of all time.Every cut is genius.Recorded with an all star cast-James Burton on Dobro[if you don't know who he is,shame on you]!!
Disgracefully that I had not heard this song until the Great John Martyn version of it. Not big on country but there has been quite a few exceptions his being one of the very best. Now I am a fan of Steve Young.
Been listening to Steve since 1970. Funny how people don't know he wrote seven bridges road. He was a star in 69 dude is damn trueful in his writing!!!
I am ashamed to admit, I first listened to this song because that kid Cam Whitcomb sung it on American Idol. I am 59 and thought I knew this kind of music. I have heard of Steve Young but never actually listened to him. He is right up there with my heroes, John Prine, etc...
I had this,many moons ago,on vinyl-about 13 years ago i found it on CD.One of the best.Please upload Gonna' Find Me a Bluebird[i heard this by Marvin Rainwater in,i believe,the late '50's].
R.I.P. Steve Young and Bruce "Utah" Phillips...Who'd believe this song was written by the same guy(Utah) that wrote Moose turd pie.... Steve also wrote Lonesome on'ry and mean and Seven Bridges Road...Amongst others.....

Richard Vaughan just getting into him myself and I already covered a song on my channel lol ...he's great.
I turn 30 this Januray. We can tackle the 100 million. When you find gold, you don't just up and leave.
I'm 17 and I feel the same way

Written by Utah Philips
One of the most shamefully under-rated geniuses in the history of popular music.
Jesus this guy was good. When this album is playing it feels like the best record in the world.
the year was 1973 when I first listened to Steve Young, it is 2017 and I am still listening
I bet you still are in 2024 too!
@@fleegerbriggs5694 you will win that bet and Renegade Picker at the top of the play list
Love this take, damn what great music Steve Young put out...
written by none other than Bruce Utah Phillips....
@@randyelliott9152 Thanx....never knew that.
Such a beautifully strong voice. Those notes he holds just cut through your bones.
so much SOUL in his music fantastic
Steve Young, Guy Clark, Townes van Zandt, Jim McGuire, Rodney Crowell, David Allan Coe were all bad ass talented.
I enjoy all that both of you posted lol
Don't forget Lee Clayton in passing ''sort of the real space cowboy '',wrote country 'as Jim Morrison would have ! grreat lyricist.
Don't forget Mickey Newbury..

I heard Childers version first and I like Childers version. But I like the picking in this one and Steve's long notes.
Wow 😯
you are so right
Tony Rice did it quite nice early 70's...
Why didn't the flying burrito brothers record this song. Chris Hillman vocals would have sound great song this song
Chris or Gram.
this gut had some PIPES...
Tyker Childers keeping this song on my play list!
snydesy that guy’s version is shit compared to Steve young’s
codine
No better
I really do love this song but I have to say it: Tyler Childers' version has got to be the best, not to knock the rest.
JD Crowe and The New South , Tyler Childers and Billy Strings do it much better.
