Love that Jam 59:30 - 1:03:20. Highlight of the set. Total next level tunage, so fresh and addicting. He is on another level now, can't wait for it all to be released. Such simple timbres and melodies, all executed to perfection in his signature sophisticated way. His compositions are now better than they have ever been, and they were amazing before.

WHP19 Manchester, 20-09-2019. Aphex Twin, the only artist that can play my emotions as if they were a musical instrument. The mystery surrounding him adds to the appeal of the surreal world of distorted faces and sounds that he creates, elevating him to mythical proportions: a synaesthetic Demi-God capable of manipulating soundwaves with meticulously programmed drum sequences rubberbanding basslines as if they’re magnetically propulsed balls bouncing around in a pinball machine. Building or modifying his own synths to help him achieve that goal, he surgically shapes sound waves to personal preference. A true sound-engineering wizard, craftfully sculpting his peculiar soundscapes into a musical format. Suffice it to say, no other artist comes close to his genius. I’d seen him perform 2 times before: Field Day London in 2017, and Funkhaus Berlin in 2018. I enjoyed the Field Day set more than the Funkhaus set, but last friday was special, outside category. Richard curated the night, so I discovered many artists that scratched that same itch that Aphex Twin’s music does so amazingly (Lee Gamble and Aleksi Perala to name a few). After a smoke outside it was time to queue the front row at the main stage in anticipation of his set. He was on stage as early as 20 min before the official start of his set, warming up his gear running samples through delays and filters. Soon the drums kicked in and a bassline pulsated in and out of existence, leading into a raspy AC!D bassline that set the atmosphere for the rest of the night. Excellent pH levels energised the crowd, an impulse which rippled its way through the audience, at this point bursting out in cheers. Press cameras homed in on the source of the outbursts and tried to capture this swelling wave of energy. The crowd didn’t get a chance to catch its breath, for just when you were settling into the flow of a track, he was waiting with a surprise just around the corner. We got showered with distorted metallic sounding synths dominating the eardrums into submission, only to then nurture your bruises with soothing harmonies. The sound was crisp, crunchier than carrot night at the rabbit bar. He so masterfully weaved tracks and effects together into a warm blanket engulfing you as a whole: the soundscapes melting together and weirdcore’s visuals melting your face. Halfway his set, a fellow fan asked if he could have a sip of my drink and then proceeded to put his caleidoscope glasses on my face, fragmenting my vision in the same way that Rich’s divine breaks divided the audiosphere into little digestible packets of sound, it agreed very well with my mental state. He sneaked in a track from the old commodore 64 game ‘Delta’, which an attentive afficionado pointed out. He gave the fans Polynomial-C, which was welcomed with cheers and clapter. Near the end of his set he dropped some massive jungle - the crowd exploded at this point - which evolved into his signature noise portal ending, this time using Steinvord as a base to build upon until it morphed into a last salute sounding like the offspring of the Come To Daddy scream and the delayed tail end of a guitar riff. As a few fans stated: 5th dimension reached. When the sound cut off, Richard, well pleased with the supernatural performance he just gave birth to, did the thumbs up thing he’s been known to do at the end of his recent sets, only this time feeling his work so hard that he did a thumb dance in the end and in a moment of genuine enthousiasm nearly elbowed his 909 into oblivion while pumping his arms up and down. Bless you Richard. It felt like last friday was suspended in time, that the clock stopped ticking and space was warped by sheer energy and astounding sound waves! Like one fan stated: “It was more like sonic warfare than a dj set”. The people attending that night will all agree on one thing: they were part of a once in a lifetime experience that night. History was made.

@@therealfrankmossofficial If you did drugs you would understand. Psychedelics for instance make you lose your sense of self. The feeling "me" or life is no different than the feeling of existence or reality. Meaning everything exists, everything is me, everything including the door to my room, the rock in my shoe etc. etc. is all alive and it's all me and you and everyone. It sounds like a bunch of nutty new age bullshit but take it from a southern Louisiana country ass dude that doesn't believe in nonsense, that FEELING is definitely not bullshit. There is no good reason to believe its true when you're sober but it's the most real feeling you will ever feel in your entire life. It's such a real feeling that a lot of people believe it to be true even after the trip.
Many people that take hallucinogenics claim to reach states in which they have a feeling of great understanding and connectivity with the universe, yet they do not bring back information or words to describe these experiences. That is because the universe does not communicate in words and language. Intuition is 'unware knowing'. The part of the brain you identify as 'self' is the part with words and language. Yet a larger part of your brain operates on this unaware knowing. It is this part of the brain that is able to connect with the universal consciousness. it is what insects solely operate on. As we advance consciousness and create language, we separate ourselves from the universe with 'self'. We need to try and bring balance to both. That is the path. To unify 'self' with the universe. As a society; to combine and pursue science and spirituality in equal measure.

@@WillSelfless actually nobody has any idea what you are saying but nice
It occurs to me that I've been a fan for over a quarter of a century now. Thanks for the music, Richard D. James!
Going on 30 years for me. Happy he's still kicking it.
@@MaximusNYC I read about him in Spin Magazine when Ambient II came out. I had to have it special ordered at my local record store. I remember that I kept having to spell his name for the clerk lol
I also remember that it took a couple of months for it to come in. I ended up finding it elsewhere in the meantime.
the sound on this is incredible..cant wait to see where all these new tracks end up...that section of caustic window trk into that new track at 59 min is just amazing btw...cant wait to hear the full version of that
I've been listening to this set from a recording on a guys phone while this has been sitting on the internet for 4 years.. I'm very stupid.
On the second day of x-mass Aphex twin wil release a stream, of his live set from 20.09 19!
now THAT rhymed
Sounds like something from the bible
@@sunpls458 well, he does kinds rock the Jezus hair and heard to be fair
this might just be a contender for the best techno set of all time
IDM. I know why people call breakbeat a techno but drill'n'bass it's not even close to techno
@@sandansaiyan5675 rich hates IDM so no
@@urzathehappy72 ahaha
Sandan Saiyan I’m happy with ‘techno’ as ‘technological music’

You've got so many machines Richard !!!
Spoon Vulture TV i avent got that many.
The most inventive and amazing electronic music producer on the planet. Nothing but love and good wishes for Richard.
Drukqs is my all-time favourite album. So many gems to unearth every time I listen to it. It constantly evolves. Amazing.

Oh my it's the Aphex Twins band in the Manchester. With Morrissey on frown face.
🤣
sad i missed this, but happy that I can still listen to it! i do really hope Richard comes to Seattle some day.
I hope he comes to the states in general!
SO SICK! thanks you Richard!!! Beefy live acid, proper polyphonic moments and exciting mayhem. Yo, maybe the favorite Aphex set of the last few. Good soundQ also! Cool on you for this production and epic visuals @Weirdcore!! Respek to da Anastasia. Damn.
Agreed!
Richard's music, to me, reflects the fact that hitting the right emotional notes is what it takes to make music that stays with you and that has an impact. Thank you for enriching my life! :-)
Nina was a beast on this nite, too!!
I’d buy these live sets either in iTunes as video or straight audio... Some of Rich’s older live sets are simply stunning; Field Day 2017, METZ 2010, Sonar 2001, Austria 2005, FURTHUR 1994 Double Set!!!
The Field Day set was amazing. Check out the Moderat set as well, they were on before him 👌🏻
God damn that furthur set is proper classic afx
I imagine the logistics of it are difficult considering every concert of his post-97 is a dj mix.
ImSoOld1997 Indeed! I was frantically searching the SoundCloud Dump for a few small joints from that set, nothing. One piece is so fckn heavy, in particular.
Jase Derbs Will do...
16:58 with the smooth GX-1 sound too, jeez
I was there!
...even though I had diarrhea that night.
Hope you feel better
I love all people who love Aphex Twin's music!!!

Mr. Richard. Please do another Tour.
I need to experience this before I die
Those unreleased tracks are insane i listen to them everyday

Yes!
holy crap. a soundboard recording even. hell yeeeees.
you changed my life Richard, I love you man
What an artist. Britain really does produce some talent. Huge shout from the US.
I'm also loving other various UK electronica based acts like
Burial, Sqaurepusher, Underworld, UNKLE, Autechre, Massive Attack, Forest Swords, ALLFLAWS
Aphex Twin es un maestro, espero volverlo a ver aquí en México.
The transition from Zomby - Soundbwoy RIP to Polynomial-C is something else
51:55 “how ya’ll feelin out there?”
I was on the wheelchair viewing platform for this. Couldnt have had a more amazing experiance. Been to following events at whp and the platform has been disrepectfully placed to the side. Like to think RDJ had a say in its position
I was there at the end shouting 'come back on Richard and keep on playing!!!'
I didn't realize you were a raver.
Nothing will ever beat a live aphex twin gig
Hopefully I time the shrooms to peak exactly when this starts
Hopefully you had a good good trip!
Hopefully a new LP is on the way.

Dude, next time he plays at a gig, go for it! I’ve seen him three times now, all abroad and it was definitely worth it, I’m hooked now. He’s my musical sjaman.
1:27:11 MAD respect to Richard for playing Jungle 94 to such an audience. Mad..
Please release 10:26 richard its moved me to near tears for 6 years now
People having fun at this show! especially dude at 42 min. Missing a good rave right now in 2021!!!
This turned a rather mundane night into a totally euphoric one.
Oh... how lucky you are, you rave people...
The only Aphex Party I’ve could get to have been canceled, cause of snow...
I’ve got no words actually to tell how deep I feel desperated...
Love U A.T.
Hope one day I’ll hear you in live...
man the part around 1hr when the crowds faces on put onto portraits almost made me tear up.
Everything about that part was pure magic.
Choir Drill live is so beautiful! wish to experience it live holy fu@$#!
Wow, really surprised to see Mark Zuckerberg in the audience at 33:17
That was the most mesmerizing Grand finale to a concert I've ever seen in my entire, very jealous of the people who got to attend us you will most likely never do again
Very very cool vfx 14:00 slit scanning a live feed us pretty genius
Track Title at 22:30? Amazing!!
Seeing him bringing everything in in real-time makes me realize how much of a genius he actually is. Audiovisual perfection
It's always nice to have something to fall back on when you need some inspiration. Never disappointed.
I feel like I’m gonna have a seizure and I’m not epileptic
