    I am 67 years old and finally found a clear description. all of a sudden I not only understand how gates are made but I no longer fear flipflops. you are on of the two amazing teachers I've had the pleasure of listening to.

    You are the best teacher i have ever seen. I had trouble to understand how to make a basic computer from logic gates, and how the circuit is basically made. Now it's a lot clearer.

    I will not "say" my age, but when i was in school, non of my professors where as good as you where in this video. most times we used the truth tables (supplied by the chips manufacturer) to pick the required component with the desired output for our circuits. great refresher class. thanks.

    This is brilliant! I wish you had been one of the instructors when I was trying to learn all this back in the 80s in the Navy. The only way it finally hit for me was reverting back to my knowledge of plumbing, with pipes instead of wires, flow restrictors (orifices) instead of resistors, and spring-loaded valves in place of transistors.

    Thank you so much, sir. I'm just a senior high student who loves to play minecraft. But now I understand one or two things about logic gate, thanks to you. At the first time, I watched your video and paused it right after the nor gate explanation. I thought that you would explain the next two gates with transistors too... So I tried to figure the rest of it myself and after 3 or 4 days, it worked. 5 transistors and 2 diodes each. After I watched your video one more time but until the end of it, now I know that I have can do many things with logic gates in minecraft. Thankyou so much, sir.

    It's been forever since I had to deal with gates. I have a project that I'm working on and I needed a refresher course. THANK YOU VERY MUCH for making this video.     Thanks very much for this clear and logical explanation which builds over the course of the video to offer a coherent explanation.. I found it a great help! I am always amazed at how arrogant a few people can be when they criticize and 'grade' your effort. They clearly haven't tried it themselves and have no idea what is involved!

    i have a final exam tomorrow, its all about logic gates, Boolean, k map, full and half adder, latch and flip flop, binary decimal octal...etc numbers. I hope i can pass my results isnt that good until now.

    What a great video! Watching this and fiddling on my circuit simulator on my WP8 phone helped me to understand how these gates work and gave me a better understanding of NPN transistors too!

    Essentially they detect any changing voltage on the input. They then react accordingly.

    This is an awesome tutorial - thanks for putting it together!!
    Note, however, that the AND gate at 25 minutes doesn't work in practice. Transistors allow the voltage from the base to flow through the emitter, even if there is no voltage at the collector. So if input B is high, then the output will go high. Breadboard it and you will see...
    So far, the only working AND I've been able to make is a NAND plugged into a NOT. :)

    When there is an input voltage, the transistor behaves like a closed switch. So all of the points from the ground position up to the resistance are at 0V. This means that there is no output voltages to drive the light emitting diode.
