1984. New in Germany, in U.S. Army, waxing floors, lighting Johnson wax on fire pouring it on floor then buffing with a Tshirt. Nena album "Nena" is playing. First song? Kino. The album is a classic most people will never hear. I know it by heart, and when I hear it I think of buffing floors.
?? I'm not still buffing floors. But if I was, whats wrong with that? Maybe I do my own floor maintenance. Maybe I'm waxing them after installing VCT.

Kann mich noch gut daran erinnern, wie verknallt ich damals in Nena war - als ich damals das Video zusammen mit meiner älteren Schwester im Fernsehen gesehen habe, bin ich knallrot angelaufen und meine Schwester hat mich dann verarscht: "Hui - du bist ja verknallt!", woraufhin ich sie dann aus dem Zimmer geschmissen habe, um das Video alleine genießen zu können! :-)
....und jede Bravo mit den postern von ihr... ja das warn die 80s :)
Hatte damals auch so ein kleines Nena-Heft, das man aus einzelnen Seiten, die wöchentlich der BRAVO beilagen, zusammenkleben konnte. :-)

I wonder what she is doing now and what she looks like. I would have loved to meet her in person. I once found the lyrics to all of her songs from the 99 Luftballons album. I was able to sing along with all of her songs in German.

No it's not. It's certainly in the mix since Germans took over most of what's England after the Romans left, but it mixed (not replaced) with what people were speaking before the Germans came. There's also a lot of French from when William the Conqueror took England, Latin from the Romans, and others mixed in as well.
erad67 English is actually made up of over 60% French. Many words are spelled the same but pronounced differently. The rest like you said is German. Latin, etc.

erad67 I remember this from learning french from some Pimsleur language cd's I had from the 90's. They stated this in the introduction of the lessons. I just did some research online. It's more like 29% french, 26% germanic and 29% latin. All these years Iv'e been telling people that english is 60% french. I should have done my research before giving false info.
Pimsleur may have been adding the French and Latin together. Some of that Latin likely entered via French.
BTW, just for a bit of trivial info. The German E is equal to the english A. Although most english speaking people would pronounce her name as NINA it is in actuality pronounced as Na (long A)na(short A) Or if you will it sounds like NAYNA

just remember german is the root language of english that is why so many words are close sounding like hallo-hello and welkommen-welcome. just remember the w has a v sound in german
