I think you got a read & write speed difference because WD space was 97% full and Seagate was almost empty. You should have tried with both Hard disks having 100% empty storage.
i didn't encounter any problem in both yet. i contacted seagate for some warranty related issues, which were resolved in just 2 days. so seagate also gives good warranty services, and rest is given in video.

The hardware interface, data speeds, plus password and data recovery options make the choice CLEAR to me (even if the better drive cost more, it would be worth it -- however, both are now about the same price in early 2023)

Speed decreases as the hdd gets filled. Doesn't matter if its wd or seagate.
