Wallons are not Spanish ethnic. They are the French ethnic in Belgium (in opposition to the flemmish who speaks Mordorians) . They used to be part of the French kingdom until the Duke of Burgundy decided to "leave" the French king and sided with the English one. The latter gave him a semi-independance.
Still nowadays, wallons do exist and speak French.

Walloon wasn't a spanish ethnic group living in the low countries afaik, it was formed by people from Belgium and Holland that were Catholics and part of the spanish crown.
I think a big part of why spanish army was so bad during the Napoleonic wars was because it had no clear purpose for the average soldier. Who were they fighting for really? The king was gone and the idea of fighting for your nation was probably something very alien to most soldiers. In the other hand defending your village and your way of life is a relatively easy step to take when someone comes and threatens it. I think the guerrilla comes out of this combination of power vacuum and the necessity of common people to defend their villages and land.

Something i think is fair to point out about the Spanish: unlike the other great powers the Spanish never got a peacetime to rebuild and reform like the Austrians, Prussians, and Russians did.
Spain was in a constant 6 year war against France and so had to make do with what they could cobble together in an on going war

Love the vids. I play DBN, but I am looking into other systems. Is there any chance you could do a series about the pros and cons of different rule set systems?

You mentioned soldier progression, as someone who really enjoys Mordheim/necromunder because of those RPG elements, is there a napoleonic equivalent?

Buddy of mine, same one dming the hussar game, if I could dm a light infantry game. As an expert on the period which you think would be more interesting, uniformed and planned skirmisher style like voltigeurs, British Rifles, Jaegers, and/or Bashi-Bazouks? Or a guerilla force seen in Spain and a bit during the American Revolution?

Napoleonic Wargaming on the thing about peasent atrocities, i can torally believe it. i was studiing quite a bit on the 30 years war and it seemed similar that nobles and high church officials were usually not involved. even if you want to look at it from a pragmatists point of view, its not exactly great social capital to kill random enemy peasents in horrible and gruesome ways, even if solely due to social capital. of course there probably was some blame shifting, but the worst of torturing usually comes from those who probably would not face direct reprocisions or have the most personal animosity to their enemy (like if you burned down a peasents house and church) as well as mob mentality. of course you can blame the nobles for the high politics and the structures present that indirectly lead to them though.

When you say "provincial" regiments, are you certain that those are not provisional units?
