My Father was Jamaican he loved this man, I was Born in the UK I loved This man Bobby Robson was Loved universally Probably the Greatest manger England has ever produced his humbleness his passion the ability to bring people together....god they don't make managers like this again
Bobby Robson and the lads were instrumental in helping my recovery from major spinal surgery in 1978 (after we'd won the Cup). I was in Addenbrookes, in Cambridgeshire. My uncle used to do the engraving for cup and such for visting foriegn teams. So Bobby was kind enough to let my uncle interview him and some of the lads. I played that cassette tape so many times in the months I was there, even thinking about it brings me to tears. I've supported my team through the good times and the bad, and always will. But to me Robson is the GOAT manager and Beattie the GOAT player.
I live in Birmingham and became an Ipswich fan in 74/75 at the age of 10.To me Sir Bobby Robson was God. I remember going to watch the Town play at the local clubs and being in awe at the class Bobby had put together. The likes of Whymark, Mills, Mariner, The Beat, Wark through to the 2 Dutch masters Muhren and Thijssen.I still consider myself so fortunate to have been around to witness this amazing man and his teams.Thank you Sir Bobby for the memories that will last with me forever.
Sir Bobby, how i miss you. Wasn't there for any of our glory years, but you and the Cobbolds made our club. Proud to support ITFC in your honour, one day we'll get close to it. Hopefully in the next few years our biggest issue will be running out of champagne again. God bless to Sir Bobby and the Cobbolds.
Should anyone want to know about the great times, read John Cobbolds biography by Mel Henderson. Great read, he and Sir Bobby made our club. We may be in the preverbial right now, but I think we can get back to the prem in the next 3 years.
As a Norwich supporter and the main Ipswich opposers . Hands up 🙌 the tractor boys were awesome and.a great incentive for the canary’s to get their club sorted . A great manager . Robson .
I feel very privileged to have been a Town fan during the Robson era. People from all over still remember the teams he created. They played the way people like to see it played.
I was there at Portman Road for some of those matches during those glory days watching the wonderful team that Sir Bobby had built & sadly it'll take a very long time before we again see such a wonderful team of such pedigree at the club!
So true mate same here mate I feel privileged to have seen people like mariner. Beatie wark etc at least those memories can never be taken away from us
He really was a hero to us Ipswich fans, and a true legend of the game. I loved him as a personality and he was the best motivator the English game has ever produced. Even a young Alex Ferguson watched Ipswich training sessions which was frowned upon normally, but Bobby allowed it. Years later of course it was Sir Alex who presented Sir Bobby with a lifetime achievement award. Loved and admired by so many, and truly one of a kind.
I was lucky enough to go to Wembley in 1978 and saw Ipswich from the mid seventies and early 80s and the uefa Cup home games.Football at Portman Road in those days were magical and Bobby Robson was the magician. Football has changed and moved on and I would love to see us back in the top flight again. However what Bobby achieved and all the players achieved was unique and holds a special place in my heart. Rest Easy Bobby x
from another Everton fan,,,,,,,,what a gentle intelligent articulate man, perfect gentleman and creator of one of the greatest club sides that i had ever seen at goodison...........we were 4-0 down at half time and clapped Ipswich off the pitch, Paul Cooper got a standing ovation from the street end,, while cushions rained down on our team by EVERTON FANS,......Wonderful memories .I miss those days dont you
They had a tremendous team that were a joy to watch. They really should have won the league but fatigue did for them. As a Liverpool supporter I salute their and their managers brilliance in that era and they deserved to win more trophies.
Thank you for this fantastic tribute. Lovely man and superb manager who gave me the most incredible memories from my teenage years. Rest easy Sir Bobby. And thank you. 💙🤍
Amazing achievement. Incredible what Sir Bobby achieved, especially at Ipswich. INCREDIBLE! He built incredible teams and club spirit. Just incredible ❤
There have been many changes to the game since then, such as more substitutes. It's incredible that Robson signed just 13 players when he was Ipswich manager. These days many Premiership and Championship clubs sign that number of players in a season.
Like many of those posting comments I was privileged to watch Ipswich in the Robson years. In this interview he remembered every detail of every match and displayed great humility as to why they were successful - respect for players and supporters - a great coach and a true gentleman. Look his eyes at the end of this interview - he truly loved the club and the players. ❤
It was our Ipswich GREATEST ever team one for one they were fantastic even the reserves away fans I speak to who were alive from that era all say we had a great team always loved coming to our ground and us visiting them 🚜🚜🚜🚜
"We had 2 sets of supports that game, 1 on the pitch & 1 in the stands." Just watching Bobby's face, his expressions & joy of all of it. He was reliving every memory & so was I. It was just a classic year where Britain had some great teams in Forest, Villa & Liverpool winning to. I met Bobby quite a few times as a younger man in my 20's & he was a genuine force for good. He was a good Midfield inside right & played for England 1957 - 1963 & in WC 1962. Magic!
Thanks for your great comments, especially about Sir Bobby. Absolute pleasure to have known him and always an honour to talk to him. Remember this interview like it was yesterday and was in awe at the detail of his memory. JG
At the tender age of 11, I saw Town beat Arsenal 1-0 at Wembley in the FA Cup final. Made me a fan for life, and the following years were incredible. What a team! Cooper, Burley, Mills, Butcher, Osman, Wark, Muhren, Thijssen, Mariner, Brazil, Gates. Holy h..l, what a lineup. The heartbreak of losing the title two years in a row, winning the UEFA cup final, playing football that won everyone’s hearts. Robson was instrumental in making this team tick, fabolous years that will never be equalled again. As Robson said, «great love for those players, part of history». So true.
Fantastic memories of this season. Two things annoy me thinking back. 1. Not going to the away game against AZ and 2. Thinking it would go on and on not realising it was the end of an era never to be repeated in my lifetime.
love sir Bobby Robson and had so much respect for him and could listen to his stories about football and every thing done in football and who still one of the best managers in world and we never for get him God bless you sir Bobby ❤❤❤❤
Thanks for watching and commenting. I remember that day interviewing Sir Bobby and how amazing his memory was. Unbelievable. And such a lovely human being. JG
i'm a barrow supporter and this season we knocked ipswich out of the fa cup at holker st, i'm old enough to remember bobby robson's great ipswich side of the 70's/early 80's, we were in non league oblivion back then and if somebody had said we'd be back in the league and beating a side of ipswich heritage i'd have thought they'd gone mad, great video, what a brilliant manager he was and what a fabulous side ipswich had, good luck to a great club. i'm sure they'll rise again but perhaps not to the level of sir bobby's time
Great post. Thank you. Sir Bobby was quality. Hard to imagine Ipswich will ever rise to those heights again. But the dream is one of the things that keeps fans of all clubs hooked. JG
What i loved about him as a maanger is he managed England and unlike most English managers he chose to manage abroard with the likes of PSV, Sporting, Porto & Barcelona...that hasnt happened since and wont again. As someone who is English but likes foreign football i was so impressed with him as a kid managing top clubs abroard just as much as i am now.
Had a season ticket with my dad 80/81 and 81/82 on Portman Terrace, 3 rows from the pitch . Went to all the home Uefa Cup games. We went to Villa Park to see the FA Cup Semi-Final against Man City and I remember after losing we then beat Aston Villa 2-1 away on the Tuesday. So close to winning a treble - we beat Villa home and away that year when Villa won the League.
Great memories and absolutely you had a brilliant team. The best in England at that moment. Deserved more than just the UEFA cup. But that was still a great achievement. JG
Its n absolute travesty that Uncle Bobby only won two trophies at Ipswich. We didn't have cash to throw around. We didn't have the best facilities, the largest squad, the location isnt exactly a prize with some long ole hauls for away days almost every other week and had out backs to the wall a lot of the time. But by heck did we have a fighting spirit to raise a middle finger with one hand with a pint in the other hand and a cig hanging out the corner of out mouths and the Gaul to say "yeah... and wot?" Hopefully this is something that our current squad are currently learning, this is the way we do things here in Suffolk
If Ipswich had two or three more first team players they would have won everything that season. Everything. They were a truly exceptional side, full of ability, flair, skill, hard work and passion. But they ran out of steam and hit injuries. Crazy the amount of games they played - 65 - with just 12 first team players ! Ipswich beat Villa three times that season but Villa only played 40 odd games.
I Loved Bobby Robson he was a great man and an absolute gentleman. Bobby Robson, greatest England Manager since Sir Alf Ramsey. Idiots will say that Southgate was more successful and on paper he was BUT back in Robsons day the likes of Germany were much MUCH better than they are now, Brazil, Italy, Argentina etc ALL much better than now. So yes, Bobby Robson was the best since Sir Alf.
Never be a team like that again at Ipswich the only reminder we have of that era is the stadium and a couple of bronze statues. RIP Sir Bobby, Paul Mariner and Kevin Beattie. Afraid big money has bought the game for select few, only Leicester City FC have broken the mould in recent times.
Wow the opposite manager doing a bet with the other manager before the game 🤣 how illegal that would be now. Lose your licence over something like that
His memory of the 2nd leg of the final was obviously a tad fuzzy. We were never 4-1 down, in fact we were 1-0 and 2-1 up in the 1st half. Also Thijssen never chested the ball before volleying the first goal.
One of the biggest personalities to grace the game. Totally charasmatic. A true legend.
My Father was Jamaican he loved this man, I was Born in the UK I loved This man Bobby Robson was Loved universally Probably the Greatest manger England has ever produced his humbleness his passion the ability to bring people together....god they don't make managers like this again

They were all brilliant Carl. And Sir Bobby built that remarkable team with modest spending.
They just don't come any better than Sir Bobby Robson.
Absolutely loved the man. Straight talking, but humble and approachable. There are not many like him.
A great man
A great Englishman
One of the greatest managers of all time, in my view. Great days at Ipswich. I am a Blue forever. God bless his memory.
You left your mark Bobby. Forever admired and loved.
His passion for ‘football’ is there for everybody to see. Fabulous manager, fantastic man.

Great comment. And healthy respect. The Canaries are in a good place now and Sir Bobby would be sad to see how low Ipswich have fallen.

100% spot on. So glad ITFC will be back in the top flight for 24-25 season in Premiership ... back where we belong !!
David Best, Laurie Sivell and Paul Cooper 3 damn good keepers
I was there at Portman Road for some of those matches during those glory days watching the wonderful team that Sir Bobby had built & sadly it'll take a very long time before we again see such a wonderful team of such pedigree at the club!
Hard to imagine a world where Itfc can emulate Bobby’s boys. But it will always be possible while we have a football pyramid.
Wish I was only watch on TV highlights in London I been going since 1990s 🚜🚜🚜🚜

We were great! Our ' Dutch boys' took it to another level before we were the Tractor Boys. (I think Lowestoft had that nickname first.)
It was amazing growing up and watching this team develop. Norwich city now hold sway in East Anglia but will they ever achieve what we did?
100% right mate
