    Josh Meyer the VoiceOverMaster helped us at GIVERS University and we found his service to be very high. He cares about your project and treats it as though it was his own. Retain him and you will find he will overdeliver.

      @@VoiceOverMaster See when I record music josh I'm only using my USB M-Audio microphone i don't have a interface what should I do to sound good because I try to turn the USB volume down to 3 sometimes so that my vocals stay below 0.5 what do you suggest

    Hi Josh,
    have been going crazy trying to adjust my mic level before recording and not finding the information I needed. Tried different mic's different laptops, different connections USB/Mic input. Always trying to RASISE my mic levels. THEN I ran across your vide and it has SAVED me as I am running up against a deadline to submit some mp3s. Finally I know how to adjust my recordings AFTER recording. I was about to try again and make a new recording and now I was able to use a recording I already made and get exactly the implication I needed in my recording. . THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks! This vertical scale is so counterintuitive. I always thought +1 and -1 are the clipping limits, and was confused why sound seems clipped even below that. Now I realized that clipping occurs at +0.5 and -0.5. That is really game changer.

    Thank you. I was searching for the best playback levels on audacity. My audio playback usually hits between -6 and 0 and start sounding cracky yet people still complain that I'm quiet. I don't know what I need to do to make this better... Mind you, I have an African accent that is difficult to understand by some.

      I would try using the loudness normalization RMS-20, then hard limit -3.2🤙

    Thank you so much! I had just watched a video on this subject that was way too technical. This was so helpful in explaining what the *result* is supposed to look like, and it gave me the confidence to make my first interface recording successfully.

    Thanks for the great show and tell. I'm SO new to recording though I'm still having trouble. It seems that when I turn the gain knob past half way on my scarlet 2i4 it gets real trashy sounding. If I turn up the incoming mic volume to max on audacity it gives a similar high end clipping that you are talking about. If I make everything so that it comes in nice and clean it is SUPER quite and I have to modify the decibels after the recording. Maybe that is just the way it is, but since I'm so new my first thought is "this shouldn't be like this, I shouldn't have to manually alter this every recording, what do I need to set my standards to to achieve my end results after a simple effect > amplify option?

    Wonderful that should help me out some more. I find it kinda of odd that I use a USB Mic and when I record with Audacity I get random clicks even though I'm on a secluded place away from my computer. Then I use a different program than Audacity and I get either zero clicks or at most 3. The previous free EQ you gave out on one of your vids did help out plenty.

    Great tutorial, Josh. I'd like to ask about ventilation in a recording space. I find that electric fans (worse: air conditioning) output noise for the mic. But if you turn either of them off, I'm basically killing myself because of the heat. This is also why I tend to lower my mic volume level a bit. How do we deal with proper ventilation while still being able to capture sounds without background noise?
    By the way, your lectures, especially in EQ, are more or less (in principle) applicable to other DAWs, right?

    • @VoiceOverMaster
      @VoiceOverMaster  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the AC is coming through on the recordings you can do a few things. Wait until the AC kicks off (the room will still be cool and also quite). You can also try covering the AC vents with a thick blanket while recording. If the house is cool and you don’t want to worry about ac kicking on, go ahead and turn it off until you’re done 😊

    I agree with what you are saying and get the level right seems the best way round it. Thanks for the video. I’ve heard people say you can just use limiters to fix clipping is this true?

    • @VoiceOverMaster
      @VoiceOverMaster  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If your microphone is clipping without the wave touching the roof or floor then absolutely not. Haha. The limiters will fix clipping that is occurring due to compression, over amplifying, loudness normalization or any other audio processing that makes a sound wave breach the roof or floor. But if your mic is clipping coming into the software the only real fix is to turn it down and re record 🤙

    • @Rookslife
      @Rookslife 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VoiceOverMaster thanks so much that makes sense. I usually use limiter after compression if I get red lines then normalise to get the actually volume where I want it with the beat. So sounds like that is ok. I will make to you lower gain when recording though if it happens. I usually find it’s a problem mid verse when trying to shout or scream or crescendo or something. Everyone says do multiple takes an stand further away. Can be hard though if it’s like a really quick rise because you are breaking up the flow but doing multiple takes. Anyway thanks for answer I appreciate that.
