I am a chapel hill local and I was on campus at the same time the police response was heading in. It was so scary. So many conflicting reports on local media and from the campus for hours. Unc needs to do a lot of work
Was the massive and immediate response by every single agency, local, state, and federal not enough for you? The blaring sirens, immediate warnings to every phone and classroom on a campus with 31k students not sufficient? In your town where you locals defunded and degraded the police a few short years ago? Maybe you should start a group and gather your complaints about how the situation was handled, and see how your local police department responds? Even better - you could join and recruit your local community members to join the campus or local police forces. Help the campus “do a lot of work.” 👌🏼 Keep everyone posted on your progress

I know we are all suffering from PTSD from mass shootings in the US in general, but I have to say I feel like these vids are milking this without knowing the facts yet. We don't know if this was a mass shooting event or if it was a targeted shooting of a person due to a relationship fail or something else personal. A crime of passion. Both are bad and a life has been lost here, but there is a difference between those two things. That difference affects the mental health of the community at large. We don't know the nature of this event. So to me, something feels odd about this coverage. It feels like fanning the flames of mass shooting trauma because it gets more views. That feels disrespectful to all involved. I would like to see the media coverage calm down a minute and let facts emerge. Time will tell. Meanwhile, all these interviews of traumatized students seem to be searching for trauma... for the stimulation of it...for views. This is not to diminish the fact that we are all teetering on the brink of trauma due to gun violence...but it seems to be milking it for views, not reporting on an actual incident of a mass shooting. As far as we know so far, this was a targeted murder, not a random mass shooting. Condolences to the loved ones of the person who lost their life there today.
What I saw were the perfect examples of this generation of people. Victim mentality, self absorbed, and ignorant. What’s worse is - these students are attending a one of the best public universities in our country. We’re all going to pay a dangerously high price for this someday.
