@@dman-pp1vs hm interesting. i respect your opinion. he wasn’t to me personally, but i get it. in 2018, i’d have Steph, Dame, Chris Paul and Kyrie over him 100%. those aren’t even debatable for me. i’d have russ 5, he was still too athletic and good enough driver to be below Lowry/Kemba at that point. all 4 of those above had better advanced stats, were more efficient, CP better defender, steph/CP better playmakers, and all 4 better shooters and scorers. russ hadn’t fallen off a cliff yet, but by 2018 the decline was there. FT% dropping, couldn’t hit a pull up anymore, defense noticeably worse. i was never high on russ; he wasn’t my MVP and i have considered him done since 2019. but top 5 is reasonable
@@sjturner15 Russ has always been a tough player to gauge and even when he won mvp, a lot of people still said he wasnt top 3 point guards. So listing point guards that are better than him doesnt really tell the whole story in how good he was in 2018 and how good he would be predicted to be in 2023. That position is so deep with talent.
Kenny, you say you’re an L reader. But that is not true. I gotta give you massive credit. When you don’t know a word, you admit it and then immediately look it up. That is a W reader.
Shocked they didn't mention Damian Lillard, if not as an all-star as a notable omission... dude was 1st team all-NBA the season this was written. The fact that Kenny didn't even think to mention it shows just how underrated he is.
@@wardelllawliet I’m not talking bout the article, nor 2018. I’m talking bout kenny naming players over 30 TODAY. 2023. 2022-2023 nba season. February 2023. The year after 2022. LeBron not coming to mind is crazy
Kenny misunderstood the age list, the article meant the age of the 2023 all-star roster in the year 2018, so for example both Durant and Curry are considered 29 (2018) instead of 34 (2023). If you are curious, it turned out like this: In 2018, *Seven* players in their teens, instead of five. -Tatum (19), Doncic (18), Zion (17), Tyrese (17), Shai (19), Ja (18), Jaren Jackson (18) *Nine* players in the 20-24 age range, instead of twelve. -Giannis (23), Mitchell (21), Jokic (22), Jaylen (21), Embiid (23), Randle (23), Bam (20), Lauri (20), Sabonis (21) *Seven* players in the 25-29 age range, instead of six. -Kyrie (25), Durant (29), Curry (29), Demar (28), Jrue (28), Lillard (27), George (27) *One* player in his 30s. -Lebron (33)
It also got right that 8 all-stars from 2018 would be selected this year (albeit two of those appear injured so shouldn't be playing). Kyrie, Giannis, KD, DeRozan, Embiid, Steph, LeBron and Dame played 5 years ago
Pretty sure the article was saying there’s only 1 player in 2018 who is currently in his 30s who will be an all-star in 2023, that has to be King he’s the only one who fits..
I looked it up and exactly 8 All-Stars in 2018 are also All-Stars this year, in 2023. So that math holds up. - Kyrie - LeBron - Giannis - Embiid - Curry - Durant - Lillard - PG 6/8 of these guys were starters in 2018. Lillard and Paul George came off the bench.
They said only 8 players from 2018 but when I look it up, 8 of the STARTERS from 2018 are likely current All-Stars even. All 5 East starters (Kyrie DeRozan LeBron Giannis Embiid) and then Steph and KD (and Harden is likely an injury replacement and AD might be, so all the 2018 starters aside from Cousins could still be All-Stars this year) In total though none of the East reserves and only Dame and PG from the West reserves were All-Stars this year, so in total 9 confirmed and likely 11 at most is pretty close to 8. Its just amazing how good the starters from back then were
A little quick to call Murray a “miss” considering Steph and Zion are out for the ASG and they will need a replacement. With how he’s been playing lately and with the nuggets being the 1st seed, recency bias will definitely get him in
Unlikely Predictions for 2028: dior Johnson (if the legal problems don't stop him from getting drafted) and Dyson Daniels will both be there. Jaren Jackson Jr will be a starter. The Knicks will have 3 all-stars.
Predictions for 2028 : - Starters in the East : Young, Mitchell, Tatum, Antetokounmpo, Embiid - Startesr in the West : Doncic, SGA, LeBron, Wembanyama, Jokic - Reserve in the East : Haliburton, LaMelo, Mathurin, Banchero, Mobley, Garland, Adebayo - Reserve in the West : Morant, Booker, Edwards, Zion, Sabonis, Poole, Sengun
