- Coachman VIP 575 V’s Elddis Crusader Mistral (Island Bed Single Axle)
We compare two, four berth single axle caravans with a fixed transverse island bed and rear washroom.
These are the Coachman VIP 575 and Elddis Crusader Mistral. The Coachman is slightly shorter and narrower than the Elddis but offers a comfortable lounge, a beautiful kitchen area and a great rear washroom. The island bed is 6”2 long and the lounge can bed used as a large double or as two singles, suitable only for children due to their length.
The Elddis is 8ft wide and offers slightly longer sofa seats and a large front double. The rear double is 6”3 long and the rear washroom is well equipped although feels a little narrow.
Both caravans offer a great deal of comfort and equipment and both have some compromises.

Hi Karina and Jules. The first van you sat inside , I like those small compartments beside the radio , so you could put all your mobiles etc in and at least know exactly where they are .Fast charge is a great idea . The vans have moved on somewhat in technicality .
|Backsplash is nice colour and marbled. Wouldnt you think that the company designers would make that sink cover INTO a draining board on the underside ? I like the dual storage of the table and the rack. I notice that most van designers just dont have a clue where to store a table , or in the most bizarre of places. ( in a wardrobe)
Karina , when you said "people can see you in action " in the shower , I HAD to giggle , you do have some fun suggestions I must say .
The second van , its VERY grey !
I like the lower position of the microwave . What is your opinion on the way the cupboards open , do you prefer the 2 doors or the lift up doors?
In the bathroom I will never understand why the towel rail is SO close to the toilet , I mean , burn your elbows or what ? and what is that tiny shelf about ? why not just make the cupboard wider ? I Totally agree with you re the sink space . that bathroom looks a little mean in its design. The shower door was not tall enough , surely if you are taller , the water would splash over the top ?
I feel overall, the first van was the better designed .

Great reviews as ever - not a huge fan of having a microwave above the TV - might find that disracting but it's a small point. Love the centerline rooflight in the Elddis - very nice. It'd be great if we could see the amount of room around the fixed beds well fully-extended. Cheers, both!

Great comparison video. Both nice looking vans, but each with their own compromises. Except both had Salad Bowl sinks. Hate them. Clearly designed by someone who has never had to clean a bathroom.

Whilst I'm not interested in these particular layouts, I really do think that this style of comparison video is absolutely bang on! I am interested in the smallest of the Coachman VIP range (2 berth model), so it was really useful to see inside. I think the 2023 models were more stylish and more reminiscent of a contemporary slightly upmarket hotel. The 2024 models tend to feel a bit more more 'granny house' in atmosphere. Probably because of the flowery fuddy-duddy curtains. The Elddis, whilst having some nice ideas, felt a bit cheap and nasty on the inside. Not my cup of tea at all and the drawers didn't open as smoothly as on the coachman, suggesting poorer quality. Both Coachman and Elddis need to rethink their shower doors. The Coachman is better being full length, but a wet shower door opening outwards is never a good idea, either in the home or leisure vehicle. An inward opening (into the shower) bi-folding door is best I think. The Elddis shower door is like a Western Saloon bar swinging style and I can see shampoo and soap studs flying everywhere in the bathroom because of that far too low door. Whoever thought that was a a good idea should be forbidden from their design team. Daft as daft can be.
